I looking at a poster who said there were 5 three and outs. The pick in the 2nd killed any chance of us getting the ball back. The 3rd could have easily of ended with a score had we chosen to run a play. Weis called a good game. Not great, but we were in it until the end.

What about Charlie's play calling did you like? not trying to be critical, just curious?

You missed my qualifier however. The only reason ND was in it at the end was because of Tate. But I guess that was a great play call by Charlie as well, yah?

Charlie: OK the kicks gonna come in and Tates gonna run it in for the TD, READY BREAK!

The team still plays for Charlie

The team still plays for Charlie

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlie has not lost this team. And no matter what is said, that should send a strong message to everyone concerned. The Irish play for him and do not quit. To a man I have no doubt they will tell you that he is THEIR COACH.

Is that worth another season? I think so. With the 2010 schedule and the currently 6th ranked offensive yardage producing squad in the nation, and a couple of top canidates for the 2010 Heisman Trophy, if they tank in 2010, CW deserves to be let go.

Unless you want to sign up for the flavor of the month in coaches to take over this program, as there is NO LONG BALL HITTING coaches out there regardless of what their CURRENT season shows, and start the process over at the risk of another "give him five years, then judge" scenario, then it may be time to sit tight.

Tonight the 30th plus ranked team in the country took the 12th ranked team in the nation to the wire. And if it were not for a BS call in the fourth they may have won. Why, because the players have not given up on their coach or each other. And that has everything to do with CW.

We came out and road a fresh pony. Pitt's Dline was their strength, so we attacked the seams and boundries. Aside from the Wild Mick bullshit, we moved the ball. The 3 and Outs were the result of getting a ball tipped, forcing us the throw, and watch as they rushed two and dropped nine.

Penalties killed us. 3rd and Long killed us. But Charlie had the balls to rush the ball on 2nd and 3rd and long and get conversions. There were nice wrinkles in the game to get the ball into Floyd and Tate's hands. But when ya drop nine, there isn't much space to fit a ball... so we took what we got, got penalized, and moved back.

It was a well called game... not good enough, obviously, but we had a chance to win.

So... Charlie says "Fuck it. You can run. Catch the ball and do shit?"

No... Charlie called a wall to the boundry and, sure enough, where does the kick go? Boundry. Where is the blocking. Boundry. Where did the ball end up? Endzone.

That tape needs to be turned over to the NCAA--not the Big East.

And Notre Dame should not play another Big East school. Let Pitt, UConn and Syracuse schedule some shit team from the ACC or MAC or whatever. Just see if Heinz field is filled to capacity then. No more get the big bucks from ND. Let an ACC team or a Mountain West team take their place.

If I were Charlie Weis I would've pulled the team off the field after the combination of the Baldwin "catch", the roughing the punter and the no call on Floyd. I wouldn't have waited for an incomplete pass that was blown dead, with players standing around and walking back to the huddle, to be called a fumble.

Guys, I know that some of the outcries will come from people that always blame the refs but I was an official, read my posts--I always say you can't blame the refs and that it's a lousy excuse. But I've never seen anything like this before. Unabashed cheating. They weren't even embarrassed, they weren't even inconspicuous. They flat out cheated.

I've always come down on the side of this discussion that says...if the refs have a chance to blow the game, you didn't do your job as coaches and players...

I will say I saw two calls in the last two weeks that sent me throught the roof...

First...Robbie Paris puts the ball on the deck against Navy...Robbie goes to grab the ball, but the ref BLOWS IT DEAD...Robbie stops trying to get the ball...the Navy guy picks it up...see the replay guys never should have had a shot at it, because the ref on the field blew the whistle before the Navy guy picked it up...replay it and watch. They all knew it, Charlie pointed it out...they let it stand...that to me is cheating.

Second...as NDMontana points out...the last call was wrong...how in the hell can the ball come out, in a forward trajectory for all to see, refs on the field see it...yet it gets overturned...I guess the replay booth has software to overcome laws of physics...they killed the drive (well them and Duncan)...I would say Jimmy had a chance, and they new it, so they took the ball out of his hands...that to me is cheating.

That said...we found a number of ways to put ourselves in a position to lose...in both games. I am convinced the loss to Navy combined with this flat performance sealed CW's fate...

I dunno about that I wasn't in the huddle. I do know that Herbstreit himself agreed that the TD wasn't necessarily good blocking or strategizing, it was just "Golden Tate being Golden Tate"

I don't know what chart you're looking at but 5 punts, a INT & a FG over almost 3 quarters does not win football games & does not scream good play calling to me.

Click on the LINK he provided and that YOU included in your response and you will.

not sure but i am pretty sure they can go on continuation when a incomplete or fumble play goes to review. the receiver should have kept after the ball.

i think they went with the empty hand thing. the ball got hit at the back of the throw and he guided it forward. the odd thing to me was the explanation, they said the call on the field stands, but it was called incomplete to my knowledge. either way it should have never gotten to that point.

I've always come down on the side of this discussion that says...if the refs have a chance to blow the game, you didn't do your job as coaches and players...

No... I actually understand the game. I don't go around bashing boards with my club after sitting under a bridge all game.

I agree with Wabash. Just state your point and don't get personal. No need. We are all fans.

I liked Charlie's move to get Floyd out of the slot. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I felt we needed to run the ball more. Where was Hughes? Some good calls on draw plays to give allen the ball with some space to maneuver. I also liked Kamara getting some throws in the second half. Without Rudolph he can be a guy to step it up.

I think Charlie really lacked in the protection scheme though. Duncan and Young needed some help.

I agree. We needed Rudy in tonight for two tight set... give the Tackles a chip. Obviously, Ragone and Burger did not provide that matchup.

Another bad call, which I have yet to see anyone mention, occurred on the first punt by Pitt. Fleming should have been flagged for running into the kicker, not roughing. There is a difference between 1st and 10, which ended in a FG and 4th and 1, which most likely would have been another punt. A no call could have also taken place since he was pushed by a Pitt player before he made contact with the punter.

A few other things, we need a left tackle that can move laterally. Sergio Brown looks lost and cannot tackle.

Don't forget that call that busted open the hole for their running back. I am sure there was a no-call for holding there somewhere.

And don't forget that "Too Much Speed" personal foul on their running back after he had the gall to run through everyone and scamper for 50 yards. That was the worst call all game.

And of course the missed call on Pittsburgh for giving ND too many 3 and outs. Thats a 50 yard penalty right there. Oh also Pitts last touch down, should have been a personal foul for "Piling On", luckily they evened it out by not calling the block in the back on Goldens run back.

All joking aside though, I don't think there has been a year with so many gripes in regards to the officials around the country. Frankly with so much dough on the line I can't believe these refs aren't nationally regulated trade under the NCAA or some other governing body.

LOL. If I could rep you I would!

Post Game Reaction: We need better coaches. We're really starting to get in high quality talent...but that means much less without quality coaching, schemes, game plans, adjustments and leadership. We need a complete coaching staff overhaul from the top to the bottom.
