Congratulations, again, to the team on an incredibly hard fought victory. These kids have shown fantastic resolve, all year long. For those of you who want Weis gone: Winning these games is going to be the difference between getting verbals from Armando Allen and John Goodman types, and getting verbals from Reggie Bush and Percy Harvin types. And, can you imagine those caliber athletes, with the "don't quit" attitude that Weis has these guys buying into? Now, on to the rest.......

1. The offensive line is playing light years ahead of last year, but they are still not there yet. After starting the season with all day long to throw, Jimmy has seen significant pressure recently. The improvement in the line is evident, however, in the running game.

2. The 4th down call. Wow, I don't know what to think about this. When they first lined up to go for it, I was livid, thinking that you should take the 3 pts. But, upon further reflection; you do have a 240-ish pound tailback who should be able to punch it in. Even if he doesn't, you leave them a couple of feet from their own goal line. I'm not upset that he went for it, but I'm unhappy with the call. Putting Robert Hughes in the Wildcat tells the defense that there is about a .00000000000000001% chance of a pass. That let's them sell out completely against the run. Tremendously disappointed with Hughes, on the run, as well. He is 240-ish, and he let a 217 pound safety stone him, despite the fact that the safety was unable to square him up. That play, despite the fact that I don't agree with the call, should have worked for a touchdown.

3. Congratulations to Duval Kamara on a very productive day. Sure, he didn't bust any big plays, but it seemed like every ball he caught was a 8-10 yarder for a first down. Well done, Duval.

4. Our secondary is horrible. I don't even want to hear about the three picks. All three of those balls were poorly thrown balls. They were QB mistakes, not great plays by a DB. The second McCarthy INT, I have to give him credit. He stayed with the ball, as it bounced around in the air, and made the catch. But had the QB not grossly underthrown that ball, McCarthy doesn't even get a chance. If this doesn't get fixed, and soon, every good QB that we play is going to have a field day.

5. Game ball to Armando Allen. Despite the heroics of Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate, Armando Allen is the most improved player on this team. He still isn't a great back, but he has improved by leaps and bounds. I think maybe Weis ought to make all of the DBs "buddy up" with AA, so that maybe some of those obviously good habits will rub off.

This is one of those games you delete from the DVR and forget about, and just be happy it was a W and move on.

Agree the secondary, don't know what they are doing out there.

Armando so very improved from the last couple of years. He is finally playing the way he should. Wish Hughes would have run today like he did the last couple of games, wonder if he is complacent again or banged up.

Game ball... I'm giving to Tate. Trippled Teamed all day and still found a way to get his touches... like a man.

As for Hughes... give the big boy a bit of credit. He got smoked RIGHT in the temple. If you get hit that hard right in the soft part of your noggin, you're not gonna move forward.

I don't agree with your assessment of AA at all.

Really? It's obvious he's not a gamebreaker. He is becoming Mr. Dependable. I think the knee injury in high school caused him to lose some speed. Anyway, he is vastly improved from his first couple of years.

I guess I have just come to expect Tate to play the way he did. I like giving game balls to players/units who stepped it up, and played above their normal play.

AA might not be the game breaker we thought he would be but I will be happy with a 5-7 yard average per run.

Agreed, I was a miserable the entire game.

1. Agree to an extent but also think it's a reflection of the coverage we've been seeing & Jimmy's refusal to force anything.

2. Agree entirely. I was livid over going for it on 4th. Play call was terrible. Never, never take your leader out on such a crucial play, however I think had Hughes not got his bell rung he would of punched in. He simply got hit just right & it stunned the hell out of him. In hindsight though I understand Charlies decision to go for it more than I normally do. Defense was playing well when we had them pinned down & fortunately thats what we did, got the ball back & scored off short yardage.

3. Agree

4. Teams are exploiting the middle on us. What USC did to us last week with McCoy & the big plays is exactly what BC did to us on all their big plays today. Right over the middle.

5. Meh, yes & no. He was decent today & good runs but no real break aways & at times (alot of the time) seemed to go no where.

I'd also like to add that there was a noticeable difference not having Parris in the game today. JC was without his dump off guy on alot of those plays when he had absolutely nobody to throw to.

In addition to what Kmoose said, I dont remember in years past where we had such issues with: field goals , kick offs , and punts. (aside from last year)Tauch seems to have solved the field goal problem but our kick offs and punts are weak.

Where in the hell did BC get Quigley? that guys is awsome ! wish we had him.

Keep the faith !!!

This will sound way to simplistic, but when we got pressure, this QB was awful. When we gave him 4-5 seconds to throw, he picked us apart. Tenuta sitting in the pressbox should see that right away.

On a another note, based on the TV angle not showing what was downfield, did you think that BC screen pass late in the 4th quarter was going to be a big gainer? HUGE play by Manti to sniff it out and make the bone splitting hit. My game ball may go to him. Led the team in tackles again today.

I'll say this afer every game: If you win, or you nearly win, than you're good enough to win. Notre Dame, after six straight defeats to Boston College, was good enough to win. And, in contrast to last week, Notre Dame had to fight through some bad calls this week. That pass interfernce on BC's last drive was a phantom call if I've ever seen one.

In any case, I'm relieved that ND won today. As I was watching the game the thought of .CW not being theire crossed my mind. And I wasn't happy.

If you look at Manti and the stuff down the field, the coverage was what my DC calls Two Dog... Man under with Two High Safety help. Manti was manned up on the RB. Hey stuck to his cover responsiblity, scraped over a block, and smoked that mother fucker.

Good call.

I just got done watching the game on Tivo, and I admittingly haven't read through all the posts yet, just some.

But am I the only one who sees this as a huge let-down game that we pulled off? Look at USC, the last 2 years they played their hearts out on a HUGE game, and then the next week they have a huge letdown against an inferior team and they LOSE. We lost a HUGE game last week, and were within a whisker of perhaps beating our #1 rival. The next week we play another rival that ALWAYS brings their A+ against us, a good-not-great team (like Oregon St and UW), play not-so-great offensively, and still pull out the win, and some people are pissed?

We have issues, but this was the classic let-down game that the team pulled out. The defense actually won a game for us.

I'm not ecstatic, but hell yeah I'm happy that we won! We are in a 6 game tourney for a possible BCS game. Survive and advance this week after the emotional week, get back after it next week and put a pounding on Wazzou, and keep improving. If we win by a small margin next week, then I'm with the pissed off people. But after having to coach today and watching the game on Tivo, too nervous to even drink, I'm going to bust open a Corona and I'm going to enjoy this damn win baby...

The Good

The Dline and Linebackers: They absloultely stuffed the run and forced the qb to make mistakes. Great game by all of them, they just keep getting better with each game

Tate and Allen: bothe mad eplays that were needed. Tate = Best WR in the country

The Bad:

The secondary? wtf are you guys doing out there?

Too many penalties. This should not be happening anymore

The play calling in the 4th quarter. I understand that Jimmy is banged up and we have the lead but i wanna see Weis go for the jugular.

Overall:
I was expecting a let down and the offense was bound to sputter. The guys up front won this one for us and who would have guessed the defense would win a game for us at the start of the year. I do not have a problem with the 4th down. In retrospect was a smart call even though we did not score.

To the Allen talk saying he cant break one. Look at the first run of the game. If he doesnt trip on the turf, he is GONE. That would have changed the momentum and outlook of the whole game

I wasn't as miserable watching this game, as i was quite distracted trying to work from home on the laptop with the game in front of me.

everytime i look at the tv, we're were pretty close, and i have 100% confidence of Jimmy pulling a W for us once we got ahead.

and the turnovers we inflicted on BC, that was amazing.

These kids were warriors today....Fought their asses off and I'm proud of each and every one of them. As to your points....

Preface.... Is P. Harvin really any different than Armando??? Quite frankly, I think Armando matches up very well with his skill set. That said, Percy ran out of the vaunted Fla. set, but I'd put Mondo up against him any day....

2. Why be livid??? Did Charlie really have a choice? Kick a field goal from the right hash at the two? Even if you take a 5 yard delay of game, it's still a wicked angle with a freshman kicker....they wound up taking a time out and went with their gut. Live by...die by, but I say they made the right decision.

I was comparing Armando Allen to Reggie Bush, and John Goodman to Percy Harvin. And, honestly........I wasn't really comparing those exact players to each other. I was just pointing out that winning some of these close games will, hopefully, make the difference between getting the top flight guys, as opposed to those second tier guys. I know that Charlie has already gotten some of the top flight guys, like Clausen, Crist, and Teo. But he's missed on a few guys that could really put us over the top.

Dear Manti,

Thank you for blowing up that screen play. That was awesome.

Dear Golden,

Did you ever know that you are my hero. You're everything I'd like to be. You can fly higher than a BC Eagle..........

I too just got finished watching the TIVO'd game. Points I'd like to bring up:

1. Manti Freakin Teo. The brah is seriously making me rethink my bromance with Clausen. He not only tackles, but he makes sure to hit you with all the force he can, each and every play.

2. Defense.. Where you been all my life? While there were some brain farts, IE Harrison Smith on that one TD, you shut down a RB who ran for 264 yards and 4 TDs last week.

3. Clausen & Tate par for the course solid game for both guys.

4. The 4th and 1 near miss... I don't mind calling a 4th down play, especially where they were at and how well the D was playing. But I am not sure that Hughes was the right man for the job. Someone earlier touched on expecting the run when they saw Hughes in there. And really, if not for a great shot I think Hughes makes it. JC is getting predictable in 5yard line and closer, but I think AA makes it more dynamic. Hell even Goodman since he can throw it.

5. Solid game all around, except not being able to finish drives. This game was really much closer than it needed to be. 5 TOs should spell wipeout.

6. Kamara took the Parris WR 101 class, nice to see some hands again.

In the end I think this was NDs first all around complete game. The defense certainly won this game and sometimes as a team you need that happen, even with an offense as dynamic as NDs.
