The saddest thing is seeing Mike Greenberg gloat all week and seeing Golic wearing Fitzgeralds 95 jersey. Fml

Damn, I forgot about that...thanks. I listen to M and M every morning on the way to work...not tomorrow, or Tuesday either.

Does this team remind anyone else of a Weis team? The defense, the late season collapse and the embarrassing home loss (ala syracuse, UCONN)

I hate playing at home, against anyone...except Michigan.

I really wish we were playing at Papa John's next week.

For those of you that watched at home, was there an issue with the kicking game, the holds, yesterday?

Nooo...smooth sailing bro.

Except for those time we had to kick...

What a perfect storm last night.

I was being sincere. Almost every kickoff fell short of a touchback, and it wasn't very windy. We had the one blocked but it was hard to tell from the stands if it was the hold or if they just got around the end that fast.

I've been fully behind Golson all year, and it's too late to make a change now, but I have concerns about him that aren't going to change by 2015 IMO.

This is the 3rd game I've seen in person this year. Ignoring the fumbles and interceptions, Golson has a real lack of being able to do anything in the middle of the field. I watch our WRs run boring, predictable routes all game with little to no separation, but I'm starting to think part of the reason they don't look impressive is because the middle of the field is non-existent to Golson. IDK if he can't read the field, isn't tall enough, or both. But our WRs run either bubble screens, quick hitches, or quick outs. Everything is to the sides and it has to be a laser, on the money to complete it, because the defense knows it's coming. NW certainly did.

I think it's too late to make a change and Golson should be the starter in 2015. But I'm really wondering IFF we started Malik all of this year, that we'd have been better off in 2015. I don't think Golson's ceiling is as high as I thought it was. We're seeing the same things over and over, and the middle of the field is irrelevant when he's behind center. Hard for WRs to get separation when they're limited to decoy-posts and out routes.

Looking at 'all-in' on 2015, if Malik had started this year, I think he picks up more in this one year (2014) than Golson does in 2012 and 2014 combined.

Hope I'm wrong, but in person it does not look good.

I am with you on the bold part, it is mind numbing how often Koyak is open in the middle of the field and is ignored. It gives me a sad.

Awful. Every aspect. I think BK said Brindza's confidence is gone. Malik flat out dropped the XP and the ensuing kicks he just catches and puts it down without putting the laces out although I'm not sure how much the laces have to face directly out.

Go back to the FSU game and on the interception near the sidelines by the goalline look at the middle of the field and look at how open Folston is.

Oh, sorry man. Yes, huge issues in the kicking game...

If we hold it, we miss it. If we don't hold it....well at least ASU didn't take one the other way.

The blocked XP was on Malik, he bobbled the snap then put it down but Brindza had already come to a complete stop and there was a defender standing right in front of them. Since it was on the ground Brindza tried to kick it and it was blocked. Malik after bobbling it should have taken off with the ball.

On the FGs, they are on Brindza he missed them, though oddly enough Malik did not try to spin the ball as he put it down and left the laces to the left (at least on the last one). I think that it has become a mental problem for Brindza now with all the other problems our kicking unit has had (bad holds).

Anyone point me to a list of our injuries in addition to the frozen four?

On Golson, I'm expecting USC to beat us fairly easily. We might be able to run the ball no them, but we all know we won't stick with the run. Their corners are good and fast. They'll lock down the predictable out/hitch route and blow up bubble screens all day.

Hold up hombre...fairly easy huh?

I expect Louisville to beat us because we are at home, sounds funny right? But finally put the TOs in our pocket and beat USC. We won't lose to the Trojans.

Plus USC let Cal, yes Cal, back into the game

Woke up and head still hurting.
-Very poor coaching-game/clock management by BK
-Turnovers continue to plague this team
-How can a PAT attempt be so difficult?
-Golson hasn't looked like he's having fun forever
-D was shredded, really?
-going for 2 made no sense
-final 2 games will be interesting to see if team rallies or falls apart
-where is our TE?
-defensive players appear so small as compared to other teams players

Slept, woke up, thought about it, and still came to the conclusion that BK cost this game.

I know I am not saying anything new, but I just woke up so I am going to throw my two cents in. This game is squarely on the coaching staff. Yes, the players didn't do good things individually, but at some point, the coaches have to make adjustments and give some players a swift kick in the ass.

I like Golson and he should be our starter, but I think Malik has to get some reps over the next two games. Start the quarterback competition now. Don't wait until the Spring. Get them each some game reps to start to determine what next year will bring. No reason not to play Malik more at this point.

To paraphrase something from Herb Brooks, this team is playing worse every game and right now, they are playing like its next week. Trying the same stuff won't work now. Time to shuffle the deck and hope for a better hand.

I think we have a big chance of losing to Louisville and I have a bad feeling that USC might take this team to the woodshed. I hope I am wrong, but if they play like they did yesterday, USC might hang 60 on us.

Just read a stat where at least 10 teams have had anywhere from 19-30 freshmen on their participation list this year. While the list incl teams like Oregon, LSU, TCU, Baylor & SCum....it didn't show ND. The Irish's problems w/ depth & injuries aren't as unique as most think (I was guilty of that as well). No excuses.

Oregon putting a freshman DT into the game, up by 175 points in the 3rd quarter is not quite the same as ND starting true freshmen against the likes of Florida State and Arizona State.

Based on Oregon's defense, it sounds like they need to try the freshmen. They give up a lot of yardage & pts. And no team has used the injury excuse this year as well as the Ducks. Even the CFP committee (from Long's mouth) acknowledged the loss of their key OL as an excuse in the Arizona loss. Funny, how they don't give the same pass to other teams w/ injury issues.

Maybe if those other teams got with the times, and had 450 different uniform combinations....

What's next for Oregon? Coming out in different uniforms after the half, at every game? new helmets for every series?

they control their own destiny. Was there any doubt that ASU would go up to Corvallis and spit the bit after embarrassing ND last week (yeah, ND embarrassed themselves as well)? Too predictable.

Oregon has one hell of a football team. And, if I were an AP voter (or any other poll voter), they would never even sniff a vote from me. Not even at #150. Oregon is the absolute antithesis of what college athletics is supposed to be all about. They are much more about style, than substance. They play great.......... they cheat, lie, steal, rape, pillage, sell their mothers into slavery, and pervert every ideal that is good in the world, in order to do so. I used to live there, and know damn well what they are all about. It's pathetic and disgusting.

Say what you want about youth....the simple fact is this team has regressed. From the coaching staff to the players. Hell, throw in the crappy NBC coverage, but yesterday was literally unwatchable. I thought I was watching The Bad News Bears. It was one bungled play after another. The only respectable player yesterday was Fuller. I am not an SEC honk, but watching them it is the men versus the boys when compared to ND.

About the two point conversion. They even took a time out and still went for it. Say what!

I honestly don't really know where to begin.

Kelly made some baffling decisions. I have no idea why he went for 2. It made no sense. Even if you get it, if they score two touchdowns they're very, very likely to beat you. If you just kick the extra point, you force them to need to score two TDs to win, rather than letting them tie it with a field goal, TD, and 2 point conversion. There was no upside to going for two. It was just a really awful decision that you would never expect a college football coach to make.

Why he brought McDaniel into run late was stupid as well. Take the ****ing knee and give them the ball back with 10-15 seconds left, needing 50 yards to have a realistic chance at a FG.

Kelly called the game like a nine year old playing Madden yesterday. That's not my biggest concern though.

Why in the hell is a team of Notre Dame's talent level letting 3-6 North-freaking-Western play with them, in their own damn stadium? Northwestern is straight garbage. One of the worst 5-10 power 5 teams in the country. It was a game ND should have won by 20 at a minimum. Why is ND letting these crappy teams play with them week in and week out? We're reaching Charlie Weis territory, where every week against an inferior opponent ND struggles. We struggled with an awful Purdue team. We struggled with a bad Navy team. We lost to a pitiful Northwestern team. We didn't exactly blow Syracuse out of the water. I understand the team is young, particularly defensively, but there is way too much talent on this roster for ND to be struggling so badly against inferior opponents.

Kelly simply isn't getting everything out of these guys right now. It's like ND just expects to win because they stepped onto the field. They're way, way too careless when they have the ball (particularly Golson), the offensive line doesn't get much of a push in the run game in spite of having a huge size advantage most weeks, and I have no idea what is wrong with a defense that has done a complete 180 over the last month.

These last two games are going to be telling. Does the team roll over and play dead or do they come out against two good teams pissed off? Kelly needs to have these guys playing with a chip on their shoulder, and they need to play like they have something to prove. If I was him, I would tell him that no one's job is safe and I wouldn't hesitate to make a quick sub if someone was playing lackadaisically or carelessly.

ND has been playing with fire all season and finally got burnt yesterday. Kelly needs to get the ship righted fast. That loss was easily the worst since the Charlie Weis era, IMO. I know we had some pitiful losses in Kelly's first year but I'm giving him a pass for that season, due to it mainly being with Weis's recruits. This is year 5. He's had more than enough time to have the team winning games they should easily be winning.

I know there's a lot of fear around here that he may bolt for the NFL, but with the exception of 2012, ND has been a consistent 4-5 loss team since he's been here (and likely heading towards that again this season). While I think Kelly is the man for the job and the program is in the best shape it's been in since the Holtz era, I'm not terrified at the idea of Kelly leaving. The talent level has risen rapidly since he's got here, but we still have a long, long way ago to being an elite program.

We return nearly everyone defensively and a very good chunk of the offense next season. The schedule isn't all that daunting either. Anything more than two losses in the regular season would be a colossal disappointment for Notre Dame next season, and it will be easily be the most important season of the Brian Kelly era. It will be year 6 and, on paper, this team will be loaded. No more excuses next season, and no more "wait till next year." I'm tired of this team becoming the college football version of the Chicago Cubs.
