I agree with you, but it does bring up a point that bothers me. Oregon hung 62 on USC, yes; but they also gave up half a hundred points. What are they going to do, when they run up against an elite defense that doesn't allow them to score at will? Will their defense be able to stop the opposing offense, or will Oregon find itself down, 35-17, at halftime?

They'll lose.

26-17 vs OhioSt 2009 BCS
22-19 vs Auburn 2010 BCS

Neither elite defences, but certainly better than they are used to playing.

Right you are.

Oregon's offense is predicated upon being overwhelmingly faster than the opposition and using their speed to their advantage. When faced with an opposing defense of comparable speed (ie: SEC), they struggle because their small OL has trouble opening holes on a big, fast, athletic DL.

And their defense is garbage. Alabama would run all over them.

* Very quiet day for Manti. Probably took himself out of the Heisman discussion (at least a realistic chance to win the award). Came alive in the fourth quarter.

Pitt keyed on him and he looked sick too...

I was at the game and didn't see him in `the walk'. That gave me a funny-*** feeling that he was one of the walking infirm. Then he played kind of like that. Makes me wonder if he was bit by the flu-bug and they kept it low pro. Can't prove it, just my sense of it.
He'll get back in the Heisman discussion before it's over. Go Manti!

We led Oregon in the BCS ranking by a tiny margin, and only because the computers liked our SoS much better than the Ducks. Even a 2-3 TD victory over Pitt would not have kept us ahead of them after hanging 62 points on USC.

I get that, but the BCS standings are 2/3 from voter polls, so if we would have taken care of business the way it was forecasted we wouldn't have lost some votes.

We may find out this weekend. Doesn't Oregon play Stanford? That's a pretty damn good defense. Held USC in check already this year.

I said last week before they played SC that Stanford is the one that's going to get them, not SC. Then OSU in the civil war. If that's at OSU I think they have a chance. Not big, but a chance. Mark it down boys we'll inch a little closer.
