The only opinion that matters is Kelly's, who gets paid for wins and losses.

It would be nice if people started giving him credit for his accuracy, probably one of the most important attributes of a quarterback (yes, even more important than mobility...)

And I'm kinda starting to feel for the kid. After every drive Kelly gives him an earful, regardless of what happened, and after every game his "fans" criticize him, even when ND wins.

When I was 19 I would have had a nervous breakdown by now.

His completion percentage is good, but I don't think it necessarily means he's accurate.

OK,
I am not in any way attached to T. Rees or D. Crist.
However, T. Rees is a graet kid, but seriously I will tell you the real truth, I am from Montana and he would literally in my opinion not start for either the MSU Bobcats or U of M Grizzlies. He is a graet backup, but like Mayock said nobody respects his running ability and it hursts NDs offense in a big way. I think Kelly has this reputation as a developer of QBs and he is trying to prove his point. hopefully it wont cost him his fan base or job as I think otherwise he is a great coach. Praying for E. Gholsen next year with Tommy as an awesome reliable #2. Beat Stanford!!!!

No it's not because he lost us the Tulsa game himself after playing all but 1 drive.

I like Tommy. He's a confident kid, confidence is a game breaker many times. The talent around him makes it work. Gonna sooooo miss Jonas Gray this week. Get better quick Jonas!
12 and 2. Isn't that similar to Andrew Luck's record for his last 14 games?

I said No...I think the question really is trying to say has Tommy been responsible for the 12-2 record...

Truth is, if you put on the relativistic glasses for a moment...the answer is yes given the alternative(s).

But if the criteria is ...is Tommy a QB capable of carrying the team...the answer is no. Not many QBs can...still fewer can do it in a sophmore's body, with a sophmore'e psyche.

I have always maintained that most of the time Tommy doesn't do things to overtly lose games for us...I think he is a neutral impact for the most part having some games where he made mistakes, and games where he indeed caried a drive or two, most of the time he manages. I'm glad we have him, because where would we be if we didn't.

We'll see what his body and head do in the offseason...but, given his WR corps...I'm betting Hendrix takes over.

I feel that Rees's performance is an indicator of how the offense plays. They seem to play with more confidence and a ton smoother with Rees at QB. It may not look very good, a la Tebow, but he gets the job done.

Tommy is average at best. But we have had this conversation 1000 times on here. Kelly is stuck on him so thats what we have to live with.

Guys,
Let me put it to you this way. Ty Willingham took ND to an 8-0 record to start with NO offense at all. We all knew it was smoke and mirrors, but bought the goods for one year. People are buying in on Tommy because he is 12-2, but reality is that he has had little to do with many of those wins. Without our D last year and Floyd, Jonas, Eifert this year our O would be putrid.

Watch this coming week as Stanford has a field day with Tommy. They will use the same blueprint BC did, but with better athletes. It could get downright ugly next week.

Tommy did such a great job on holding Boston College to 14 points. He made some clutch tackles out there and really got pressure on the BC quarterback.

Rees was horrendous yesterday. They won in spite of him.

I actually thought is was Kelly's decision to throw the ball instead of kicking the game winning field goal which was the factor that lost the game.

Who can forget Kelly's words of wisdom to Rees, "Tommy, throw it extremely poorly into double coverage instead of making a safe throw!"

Rees threw that pick, not Kelly. I feel like most of this board thinks football is an individual sport between quarterbacks.

Haha. That's well put. But, seriously, the decision to pass was Kelly's and it was not necessary to do so with a deadly kicker within his range. That's why it was on Kelly. It's really the one game last year that I think was on Kelly's in-game coaching. They got crushed vs Navy and Stanford, and Mich and Mich St were tough losses that happen, but Tulsa was a won game lost by a poor decision. I haven't seen much of that since then.

I have no doubt that Kelly is in the best position to know who, of his available options, is best to execute the offensive game plans he thinks will win. Not that I don't think coaches can make bad decisions (see above re Tulsa), but I trust Kelly's wisdom regarding his considered judgments re his offense. Doesn't mean Tommy is perfect, but he plays hard, has a great, mature temperament, and is the best option.

We see it every week in college football; no matter how good your kicker has been in the past, it's wise to keep him from deciding the outcome of the game. I didn't have a problem with the decision to target Floyd in the end zone. I'm sure that Kelly would have gone for the field goal if it were tied because there would be little pressure on Ruffer, but we were trailing when we ran that play.

If our quarterback is 12-2 as a starter then I know he's at least he's giving us a great opportunity to win.

Does anybody remember the Maryland game? Try and look at the positives for once. As far as I'm concerned, Boston College = Maryland.

Tommy Rees' record in his last 14 starts is 12-2
Andrew Luck's record in his last 14 starts is 13-1

by Rees supporters' logic, they're comparable QB's.. by all sane people they're.. not. even. close.
