Because Republicans LOVE ❤️ Veterans. Right?
I just watched the press conference with Schumer and others celebrating the passage. The congress reps were careful not to sling mud and touted both sides coming together to pass the bill. Jon Stewart had some very poignant comments. Then a different John came up (Didn't catch the last name), I know he's fought for 9/11 vet rights in the past. He got pretty pissed off and lambasted the GOP for making these guys camp out for a few days at the Capitol. Like, dude, this is Congress...things rarely get done on time, a few days delay is pretty impressive for them! Besides, I know for a fact there are some fine hotels in DC, there's was no need to camp out! Stayed in the Bolger Center once for work, tiny ass rooms but the rest of the accommodations are fine! It's kinda funny how DC is all big on water conservation, there's signs for it everywhere and even in that hotel, but the showers have enough water pressure to cut steel

In any case, the comments seemed a bit out of place when everyone else was in a more celebratory mood and not pushing party politics, not to mention the bill has been kicking around for 6 months now. I can see where frustration with DC and fighting for the last 21 years could drive someone's anger at the process though, the man should not have been fighting this long. Just glad the bill is passed though, should have been done ages ago.

Caused by republicans. They lied about some imaginary changes to the bill, once everyone called them on their bullshit they passed it without changing anything else.
They said from the start this thing was going to get passed regardless, and they still passed it a few days later in greater numbers despite the fact none of the proposed amendments went through. The GOP weren't the ones pushing the "You're literally killing veterans!" hot takes. They were never pushing to halt veterans getting the aid, it was always about haggling over unrelated spending (And based on the proposed amendments it does sound like some money wasn't going to the vets...moot since GOP abandoned the changes and passed it as is). So yeah...lot of drama over nothing as it still got passed as they said it would.

Republicans attempted to close this perceived budget loophole during a Tuesday night vote, but the amendment failed to pass.

Two other amendments from Sens. Rand Paul and Marsha Blackburn also failed to pass. Paul's amendment aimed to reduce aid to other countries besides Israel over the next 10 years to offset some of the bill's costs, while Blackburn's amendment proposed allowing toxic-exposed veterans to go directly into community care.

Wonderful job by the people in Arizona who continue to listen to the loser by nominating dominion machine truthers/election deniers for Senate and Governor. Given how unpopular congress and Biden are, the Dems have NO BUSINESS winning either of these races, yet they will walk away with both races. The pathetic thing is that Mark Kelly isn’t even super popular. He only won in 2020, and will only win in 2022, because of who he ran against. He’d lose to literally anyone who wasn’t terrible. Also, great job by the orange jackass. Doug Ducey would be a shoe-in as the next AZ Senator, but the loser made it his life’s mission to make him unelectable going forward because he didn’t believe all of the “overwhelming evidence of fraud” that couldn‘t win a single lawsuit. Ducey was apparently going to run for Senate but the loser made him unelectable. Same thing with Pat Toomey in PA. He’d easily beat a sycophant for a soon to be 80 year-old President with a 39% approval rating that is on the cognitive decline and possible has dementia. But no, he didn’t believe dominion machines switched votes, so the loser turned his anger on him and propped up a fellow hack who used to be on TV.

I'm certainly willing to give Vietnam vets a pass, whether hypertension is a result of the war or not. Those dudes have been through a lot between the psychological horrors from the war itself, agent orange, treatment at home once they returned, etc. I would have let that one go, Rand.
Crisis averted.

How many of those far right R’s mentioned were supported financially by ‘pro-democracy’ democrats?

I still think if someone dug into this, they would find that the vets were encouraged to come and protest as a way to counter the Repubs wanting to make the bill changes so the money appropriated didn't go to anything but vets benefits.

Bro just admit it that the GOP was wrong to delay the bill, they lied and got caught. Lol. They fucked around and found out. The delay was a big deal because they go into recess soon and if the bill didn’t get passed it was likely to lose steam. So yea it was important to pass the bill.

Toomey got his amendment vote and it failed too. He wanted the direct spending to be discretionary. You got it backward. You are still parroting their lie. GOP wanted the spending to be discretionary

No. You’re still wrong. This was always going to pass and you’re really grasping at straws here.

Looks like the Dems bought a seat in Michigan.

So the GOP delaying bills out of spite, lying about it and trying to cause political damage is cool. Got it.

Hate to break it to you but GOP has been backing other party candidates and doing that for decades lol.

If it was always going to pass then what was the point of delaying it based on a LIE?

You know it’s possible to think both suck? Or at least be able to be honest enough to admit when either side does something shitty?

Owning the libs won’t allow most of you to ever even give an inch.
This is the truth. The hate and total distrust of people on the opposite side of the aisle has made for a non-functional governing body. Neither side willing to compromise in the slightest.

Step 1: I heard XYZ is actually the issue
Step 2: *Evidence comes out that XYZ isn't actually an issue*
Step 3: Liberal media is covering for them
Step 4: Well actually this is way worse so I'm now mad at this
Step 5: It was going to happen anyways so I don't see why everyone brought it up.
Step 6: I am now the victim.

It’s become a sporting event. People pick their side and dig their heels in. Follow nothing but media that vilifies the other side and paints theirs in the most rosy altruistic light possible.

I listen to NPR and Fox News radio and shake my head at both.

That sort of stuff is amusingly ironic. The party of AOC complaining about somebody from the other side being batshit crazy. The party of Pelosi and Hillary complaining about the other side being crooked and dishonest. The party of Biden accusing anyone else of being dumb. The party of George Wallace, Robert Byrd, and the Klan accusing the other side of racism. It's like a page right out of Orwell.

I always find it amusingly ironic that people claim there was never a Southern Strategy.

The two American political parties aren't the same as they were five years ago let alone multiple decades ago.

Trust me, they both suck. I like to play devils advocate and have fun pointing out the hyperbole.

Now is the perfect time for a viable third party, but unfortunately both parties won't allow it and the two party system is so engrained that the vast majority of voters would be hesitant to switch because of the failures of previous third parties. They feel they would be wasting their vote.

They literally tried to get three amendments added to the bill to shore up said "LIE." If it was a lie, then what were the amendments about? One of the amendments directly tried to reduce money we were paying out to other countries to help offset the costs, money that wasn't going directly to the vet's care. It was all a lie though...Regardless, when the amendments didn't get the votes they passed it anyway like they said they would. GOP DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE VETS!!!!1 It was all faux outrage for political mudslinging.

The lie is that the money was somehow snuck in by democrats between now and the last time this bill passed through the senate without an issue. Please try to keep up.

Totally agree. I'm hopeful that the forward party is able to make some headway. Their biggest policy position is ranked choice voting, which would be a massive step forward for the country. Until RCV is enacted then 3rd parties are never going to be viable.

Whether it wasn't caught the first time they voted or it was added after the House review is moot (They still haven't updated the bill on the senate site, the last action on it still says it went to the House in June). Obviously they were willing to pass it the first time, so the bullshit about GOP not caring about veterans was manufactured outrage. It was a political stunt that gullible people bought into. Again, from the start the contention was the spending and they said it would get passed regardless soon, which it did in less than a week.

No it's not moot. Ted Cruz came out and specifically said that the dems snuck in a slush fund. He's a liar. They were caught and turned and ran with their tails between their legs because everyone started calling them out for not giving a shit about vets.
