Still got kids on special teams with no clue of basic pee wee football rules. What the f is 32 doing? When I see kids on punt team run in on purpose and almost touch the ball around a swarm of the other team it makes me insane! How the F does this happen at this level? Polian has always sucked and if you can’t pick up where 10u left off on punt team you should take a year or two off and sharpen the saw before tipping your toes back into the coaching profession.

I believe the ball had already touched a Duke player but it wasn't downed by them so the ball is still live. ND is able to pick it up and advance the ball from there. Since it had been touched by a Duke player already ND can choose to take the ball where it was first touched or where it was advanced to. So even if Assaf had tried picking it up, fumbled it, and Duke recovers, ND would get possession where it was first touched. If the ball had touched a Duke player it was actually a very good play by Assaf to take a chance on picking it up and catching them off guard.

That's what I was thinking as well. I know that's an NFL rule and I'm pretty sure it is in the college game too.

Yep, this is correct. It happened earlier today in another game. So who exactly doesn't know the rules here again?

Maybe some of you could spend more time on why no NCAA college football teams want to put years of birth on their player's profile. That would be a great story.
