agree on all points Buffalo.
my only issue is: we had the same problem (getting the plays in quickly) when floyd was there last year.

I don't understand why we haven't given Davonte Neal more opportunities on screens.

I'm sure this comment will find a few people wanting to call me stupid, crazy or both, but situation being what it is, I wouldn't mind seeing some planned and scripted sets of downs where Everett ,Tommy and maybe even Andrew occasionally run in for a down or two with the plays already given to them.

I agree. I'll even add that its not very difficult to have our young WR's run crossing routes and slants. It's nots like theyd be asked to run receiver option routes depending on the coverage, they've been running basics outs/posts/crossing patterns/slants/hitchs since they were 10.

Honestly, I think the experiment with the multiple TE sets isnt working out as planned, and BK decided to just win on defense and ball control until the bye week. I have a feeling that we will see an increase in spread formations and EG rolling out so that he only has to measure the defense on a half field.

Like another poster pointed out, its not just our QB thats having trouble. Our WR's, though young, but extremely talented while also being very fast are left on the side line. Our Oline is having tons of trouble holding the line of scrimmage, and our RB's are getting nothing done. We'd be better off just playing pitch and catch with our super talented young guys and letting them play ball using their athleticism. Our backs seem to play better in space too since they dont have to run through an entire defense to get 5 yards.

good points tommyirish23.

mimicking the stanford 2009 thru 2011 offense (this TE set power offense) without an andrew luck, and a cast of fleener, that O line that had 2 maybe 3 guys all go in round 1 (i think) is pointless.

spread this offense out and let the playmakers make plays in space-which (right or wrong) is what these skill guys were recruited to do

Here I thought the purpose of the game was to win the damn thing. Any play calling and execution of the offense (and defense) that accomplishes this goal is good.
Holtz said when he first came he was supposed to field a good team all of whom graduated. When he did that, he was told that they also needed to win. When they did that, he was told that they needed to win bigger. When he did that, he was told, yes, but he also needed to cover the spread. (When he did that, the sport's writers and coaches screwed us and gave the national championship to Florida State whom we had defeated a few weeks earlier.)

I think about this sometimes. Not so much this year, but last year when our defense was playing well but the offense was turning the ball over constantly. Couldn't believe that we didn't have a capable QB on the roster to at least manage games.

Crist reminds me of Bobby Douglas, who had two velocities on his passes: a short hop and an hundred MPH fast ball, no matter how close the receiver happened to be.
Catching his passes were like trying to catch a knuckle ball: you picked them up
when they stopped rolling.

Ideally we'd have a QB seasoned enough to do so at the line, but we don't. That extra step is costing time.

Actually we do. His name is Rees. The problem is that good run defenses handled our O-line in spread sets last year, then dropped 8 in passing situations. Plus, the turnovers.

So, Kelly changed his offense, which limited the passing game with 2 and 3 tight ends who-though good- are slower than having 3-4 Wideouts and Eifert. Also, we can't get the running game going with 2-3 TE's. If we could, then we could consistently use misdirection runs and use play action crossing patterns with TE's, with the occasional shot down field.

It's either that, or hope for the development of the young receivers to run a spread offense, and hope that Rees has eliminated his turnover affliction. I don't think Golson is ready to run Kelly's spread offense, which requires a lot of reads as the LOS.
