Here I thought the purpose of the game was to win the damn thing. Any play calling and execution of the offense (and defense) that accomplishes this goal is good.
Holtz said when he first came he was supposed to field a good team all of whom graduated. When he did that, he was told that they also needed to win. When they did that, he was told that they needed to win bigger. When he did that, he was told, yes, but he also needed to cover the spread. (When he did that, the sport's writers and coaches screwed us and gave the national championship to Florida State whom we had defeated a few weeks earlier.)
