I don't think we can make judgments until we know what the AD did and what McQeaury really told Paterno.

Paterno made his grand jury testimony 11 months ago, right? Why would a guy not retire after last season if he didn't think he was 100% ethically innocent of what happened? It's not like he didn't know this would surface at some point after his testimony...

I think the actions from him and the University in the last couple of days show why he didn't retire. Think about it.

On Mad Dog radio, they were discussing other tragedies which involved sports in some way and how this compared. Some mentioned the Marshall plane crash which killed the entire football team a couple decades back. For me, I think about the Munich Olympics of 1972 and the lives lost there. Those involved deaths, while this involved the loss of innocence of young kids. All were horrific tragedies.

Really hope the Board of Trustees shows some backbone and does not let Paterno coach out the season. His statement today was totally self serving and trying to force the hand of the school to let him finish on his terms. He lost that right back in 2002. He should not be allowed to run the players out on Senior Day vs Nebraska. He should not be allowed to lead the team into a Big Ten Championship game, and especially not into a BCS Bowl game. Put him on administrative leave until the end of the season and then you let him retire.

I agree that Paterno should be out but I don't get why more people aren't focused on Sandusky and how disgusting he is. I think the person in the lime light (Paterno) is the wrong one. No doubt he should have done more to get things taken care of.

Joe Paterno is going to live the rest of his life knowing he let someone HE KNEW was a pedophile and a rapist hang out with kids who could have been his next victim. The Penn State students are idiots with no sense of morality. Sandusky is one of the worst people free today, and I hope he gets a karmic punishment in jail everyday from a big black dude. Paterno and anyone with power at Pedo State can live with the guilt of knowing that they could have stopped a pedophile from raping young boys AND THEY DID NOTHING. It's sickening and so are people defending Paterno, McQueary and anyone at Penn State are sickening as well. I wish I believed in a hell for Paterno, Sandusky, McQueary, Schultz, Currey, and all of those guys to go to because whatever punishment they receive on Earth won't be enough.

Because Sandusky has been brought in by the Authorities already. He's out on bail and he will stand trial. There is no question that he will face charges and if stories are true, he will live the rest of his life wishing he wasn't alive. Sandusky is the monster, no doubt about it but people want everyone involved in the crime and the cover up (or those that simply ignored what they saw or knew to be true, if you don't like to call it a cover up) to pay a price. At least that's my take.

Because at this point Paterno is not being charged with anything and those above him are. They will be dealt with legally while he faces no responsibility at this point beyond the control he is trying to keep with devising when he leaves.

Not sure what you're asking for here? Do you think they should just keep airing the same story about how he rapped little boys? Don't you think they should dig to see how this happened? Or how he could continue to be allowed on campus? Who knew about it? Why weren't the police involved?

If you don't think they shouldn't go any further than I see your point. If you agree they should dig than yes Joe Pa was involved and he is the face of that university so like it or not he is going to be a target as this unfolds.

Exactly right. I heard some co-host on Scott Van Pelt ESPN Radio yesterday excusing McQueary as a "kid," as in "what's a kid supposed to do when he sees a legend doing something wrong?" And I'm thinking "Kid?? He's a 28 yr old MAN!!" What a disgrace, him and his father both. He needed to act, right then; a crime was happening before his eyes.

I think part of the issue here too and what some people are forgetting is that Sandusky was apparently caught on the telephone by police, admitting he had showered with a boy in 1998. So what was the result of that. Was that the reason he retired soon after. Were they hoping if he retired it would all go away? What was Joe Pa told? He had to of known about that.

if the police had sandusky in 98 how did it even get to the 2002 incident? this is so bizarre, how did an entire community(or a large group within it) go out of its way to harbor a predator? watch sandusky's defense is gonna be a "woe is me, i was molested as a child too". anybody ever watched the show "OZ" on hbo? thats what that scumbag deserves!!!

So much is being written in the press and spoken on TV about the Board needing to step up and make him either retire immediately or be fired now. Paterno's arrogance in his retirment notice was clear to all. Telling the Board they do not need to spend a moment discussing his future. How incredibly arrogant of him to say that today. Pressure is mounting on them to end Joe Pa's tenure before Saturday. If they allow Paterno and expecially McQueary to coach Saturday, it will be seen as one more act of cowardice by the University. One more act of showing that Paterno is bigger then the school itself. I dont think they can allow that to happen. I think Joe has already coached his last game. If I am wrong, then the Board for Penn State is proving themselves gutless and they will be hammered in the press for a long long time. It will only bring more harm to the school. They need to act now to start a cleansing process and allow healing for the entire Penn State community as a whole.

I disagree. Joe Paterno has given Penn State, what, 61 years of his life? He's been the standard by which others coaches are judged, in terms of integrity. If Paterno had been the one molesting little boys, then I would agree that the University could not allow him to continue another day in the program. As it stands, he's got to go. But there's nothing wrong with allowing him a modicum of dignity, on his way out the door. They should allow him to coach the last 3 games, while they start the search for his replacement. If they find that replacement before the bowl game, then let him go at that time.
