You folks in Texas better be careful. With the latino population rising fast you guys could be a liberal state in a decade, even republicans think so and are worried. You guys better start looking for ways to surpress the vote, or you know cheat. Else your state my lose some its conservative policies including those on guns.

Thanks for the tip...I don't think "the latinos" are as one-dimensional as you think.

Fantastic. Noted.

And it doesn't matter what you "believe" when it comes to my rights. And explain to me how a law abiding citizen owning a firearm, prevents kids from going to school or teenagers from going to the movies?

When you can tell me how people that AREN'T breaking the law, are preventing rights of others, I'll agree.

I'll wait.

Nobody is breaking the law until they are breaking the law. You can no sooner tell me that law abiding citizens will never break the law as I can tell you that they will. Besides, what if their gun is stolen and used in a crime? Is that law abiding citizen completely free from responsibility? The fact that guns are so prevelant in this society and that these mass shootings are so commonplace anymore fills a lot of people with fear about what could happen. It isn't about anyone's individual rights, it is about the soundess and security of our society. People are getting killed for going to the movies or for sitting in their grade school classroom. That is a million miles ahead of an individual's right to own firearms on the list of things that are important.

There are no guns around them now in schools, remember?

The high school my kids attend has an armed officer on duty during school hours and I'm sure many of not most high schools around the country have the same, so you are incorrect.

If you are seriously going to defend arming teachers, I'm not even going to bother engaging you in a conversation. That is absolutely batsh1t crazy.

They're called law abiding citizens for a reason...because they're responsible.

So what we're bascially getting at, is because of the FEW (VERY FEW) that act like idiots, we need to punish the rest?

Just come out and say it.

And it's batsh(t crazy that you'd tell a gun owner with no prior record, no mental illness, that you're taking way his gun because he MIGHT break the law one day with it.

Yes that is what I'm saying. Because the consequences of those few idiots are so devestating and cause so much fear in the rest of the population, people need to understand that their "rights" are not as important as the whole of society. And the "few" doesn't seem like a "few" anymore. It seems like this sort of thing is happening with some degree of regularity. There have been dozens of these events since the Columbine incident and a lot of innocent people have been killed for no good reason. Do you honestly believe that an individual's right to own a gun is a bigger issue than this?

They have lots. And they actually think for themselves! Instead of being used for race baiting, by the white liberal that thinks he knows whats best for them.

They do think for themselves and almost ALL of them voted for the Dems this year. they don't like what you guys are selling -- get over it.

Just step away from the computer for a bit. Your crazy comments are slowly leading you to another racist rant, and no one wants to go through another one of those with you again. You seriously make conservatives look like raving idiots. If I was one of the other conservative guys on here, I would tell you to cool it, because you are truly making their job very difficult with your statements.

I really wish you'd answer my posts instead of trying to dictate and determine whose rights are more important than others.

As noted before, no one gives a damn about whose guns you want to take away for everyone else's safety as you see fit. it's completely irrelevant. You, nor anyone else, has the legal or moral right to punish so many for the acts of so few.

No one on this side has claimed that one's right to own a gun holds more weight than a child's security in the classroom! There are two big logistic/ legal hurdles you can't clear:

1) You don't get to determine who has guns and who doesn't.

2) School safety is going to be determined by local districts, school boards, or state officials. They will handle it at their own discretion. What will work for one school (maybe in Oklahoma) may be a nightmare for another (in Florida).

If I were a Leftist I would politely request that maybe we should all stop referring to everyone we disagree with as "crazy", "racist" and "idiots".

Really? Because that is pretty much what laws do. Maybe not the way you stated it -- as a punishment -- but laws certainly restrict what people can and cannot do. They tell you that you can't drive over the speed limit, or own a lion, or "yell fire in a crowded movie house." In order to protect the citizens of our society the government has and should act in the best interest of the whole instead of the individual when it is required.

I'm not suggesting that I should determine who gets guns and who doesn't. I'm suggesting what I believe should be done. I'm tired of the topic being off limits because it is not politically expedient for our representatives to participate in the debate.

Your original reply to my original post a page or so back is the reason I didn't respond to your post. I'd suggest an idea and you'd simply answer "you can't." That is hardly a reasoned answer and it fundamentally is not true. Any and all of those suggestions could be put into affect if there was political will to do so. If there is a legal fight, then have it. But the last thing that we should do is nothing -- this problem has gone on too long without any progress. It is all rhetoric and innocent people die because of the innaction of elected officials.

If I were a Leftist I would politely request that maybe we should all stop referring to everyone we disagree with as "crazy", "racist" and "idiots".

I would defer to the esteemed Senator Harry Reid, who said our president was successful and earned the nomination in 2008 beacuse he didn't speak with a "negro dialect" and, just for kicks, told reporters in 2010 he carried a gun "wherever he went" because some bad people were after him. The NRA has even endorsed him in the past and he's always dodged gun legislation issues.

Why dont you mention that to the two guys that made the "black GOP" comments?? Or are you just another hypocrite?

"Another" racist rant? Or, like most people of your mindset, are you just always looking for something to label as "racist"?

Come on.

Really. Your utopian ideas of peace and unicorns aren't possible beacuse our laws are designed to protect the citizen from the government and too much cenrtalized power. When I say, "you can't", I'm 100% right because you, nor any other sole politician, can do what you say.

Nowwww all of a sudden you bring out, "if we have the political will." In that case good luck.

LOL. Did you really think I was talking about overthrowing the government, inserting a dictatorship with me in charge and forcing everyone to bend to my will? Short of that, it is pretty obvious that no one person, politician or not, can change these laws. It would take political will, just like any other changes to the nation's laws. I didn't think I had to explain in that level of detail. Let me know if you want me to type slower.

Also I guess Biden is suposed head up some kind of focus group to in attempt improve gun violence.

...don't know rather to laugh or cry.

This actually already reads like something Joe Biden would say. Whats he going to do gather everyone up and teach them how to be more violent with a gun...couple pistol whips first?

On a serious note...I know alot of you guys like Joe, but all I see is disaster here. He is really good at inciting anger and resentment, which works great in an election year...As well at times he means well but the words he actually says are not, shall we say, illuminating...he is just not a guy to lead much of anything where you must avoid misunderstanding and anger. Joe Biden to lead something as delicate as this
...gasoline...fire....fire...gasoline.....BOOOOOM!

VERY POOR CHOICE IMHO.

I am happy with Feinstein...she is liberal, but not incessantly stuck in us vs them mode.

Haven't we all suffered enough with this thread! Haha

Yes this thread has brought out the liberal monster in me. Not that I think my views making me a monster, just the fact I try to shove them down people's throats.

I think this thread in a sense is tearing this board. We are supposed to a united ND nation.

A little bit....but how are we being selfish if we're speaking about MILLIONS of law abiding gun owners?

And what does it matter to you, or some politican, why I want to own a gun? I mean, I understand WHY we're having this convo because of the tragedy, but to question a citizen of this country as to why he "needs" or "wants" something that is protected under our founding docs is ridiculous.

We are!! I hold no ill will against you or anyone else on here for having their POV! It's what makes this country great. I have developed this ability to leave politics in politics and still be friends with those with opposing views, even with the occasional bashing.

And you're all still my brothers come gameday. Even you Wooly.

Just because I'm a lunitic about guns, doesn't make me any less of an ND fan or apart of ND nation.

Nah, its all good though. The real issue is who is gonna be the real life Patrick Swayze when Red Dawn occurs?!
