Yeah tbh it’s kinda whack. We’re down like a dozen key players to injury, have a brand new OL, and we’re headed towards 11-1 when Vegas predicted 8-9 wins. Ten years ago people would be over the freaking moon with 11-1 for a “loaded” ND team and this is NOT that. We have a starting LT who was supposed to be a project player that would take years to develop, and we ran for 250+ yards with most of those yards coming from true freshmen.

I just honestly don’t understand the pessimism when I see teams like Oklahoma struggle against Charmin soft competition for no reason; Ohio State with three first round WRs scoring only 21 and losing at home to what’s turning out to be a very flawed Oregon team; Alabama lost to a crap TAMU; Clemson with a handful of losses despite returning a loaded and veteran defense that is second only to Georgia’s AND tons of skill talent on O. I can go on and on. I’ve seen every blue blood but Georgia fuck up against inferior opponents this year for no earthly reason.

Yet people criticize the “winning is hard” mantra. It IS hard. The only valid criticism is that we need to recruit and manage the roster better to prevent QB, OL, and DB situations like what we’re dealing with this year.

Amen Brother!

I completely agree with you that there is a lot to appreciate and it can be easy to take it all for granted. We absolutely shouldn’t.

I think all of us can agree that we want that title so badly, and this can cloud the appreciation that Kelly and this team deserves.

Most of the time, the boards are a good way to vent. I think it’s kind of a good sign we are nitpicking, because it means the standards are legitimately higher on a consistent basis. But this shouldn’t turn into actual disdain for the program, like you are articulating we steer away from.

We all can remember when ND was struggling to win. Last night, I saw all those VA fans cheering loyally (almost blindly) when it was clear they were completely outclassed by our squad, and I thought to myself, “Damn, we were once those fans.” You know, feigning importance.

ND IS important and trending upward, and the coaches and players deserve a ton of credit for battling to get us in that position.

But I’ll be damned we didn’t beat that Cincy squad. But we’re also not the same team since then. We’ve improved.

Great post also. Kudos to you sir.

I’m with you it’s frustrating now looking back at how ND played in that Cincy game. The way Notre Dame is currently playing if the two faced each other again I truly believe the score would be flipped/reversed the second time around. That is regardless of where the game is played; at Notre Dame, at Cincy or neutral field Notre Dame would win the rematch by two possessions/scores. One caveat in the results os that the game would not be played during a week where the flu went through the Notre Dame locker room lol.

I think we can both appreciate all the things the program has going for it (which is a lot and very enjoyable to experience) while also discussing what’s missing or what’s needed to take the next step.

Kelly’s motto for the program is Graduate Champions. We haven’t graduated any champions yet. So, it seems reasonable to wonder when and how that might occur. What will be needed in order to do so.

Outside of hysterical fire this coach and fire that coach. And/or, hurling insults at players and coaches, some game to game analysis is fun banter. What worked and what didn’t work? Is it personnel or scheme? How would this translate to opponent X? And, that won’t always end in high fives.

FWIW, the revisit BK thread hasn’t been bumped in almost 1 month. That’s usually a solid barometer for how much pessimism is on the board.

Just a difference making QB, please. My opinion anyways. Let’s not over complicate. Just that one bad ass signal caller away.

Watching the game kinda felt like sex last night. It started, it wasn’t that enjoyable, couldn’t wait for it to end, when it ended I just shrugged and both of us probably had that thought “a win is a win, didn’t play our best, not a lot to brag about, hope to play better next time.”

Don’t pretend you don’t know what I’m talking about guys…

Sex is like pizza. There's no bad pizza. It's that there's some that's better than the others.
