10-7 now Maryland in 4th, the terps are going to be really hard for anybody to beat with this defense that they have this season
Agreed. The raw material is definitely there to be great but probably not as great as last year. Could still be enough for the three peat10-9 about to even it up and then Busenkell force feeds the crease for no reason man up and Maryland scores man down. The story of this game and the last three quarters of the Georgetown game are bad shooting and unforced turnovers. Need to find a way to get production from the third attack because that’s what’s killing them right now and McLane was 100x more productive as a midfielder.
The offense lacks identity but the important thing is to be playing best lacrosse at the end of the season. They are a work in progress.
If the ratings are correct Maryland is the best team we'll face this year. But I'm not ready to discount Syracuse, Virginia and Duke yet, they are talented and just as likely to improve as the season goes on as we are. Not any easy games left, so we can't afford to lose too many (remember what happened three years ago).Turnovers, substitution issues, breakdowns in transition defense…all killer.
If you want to argue for silver linings, we played that poorly in so many facets and lost by 1 to the number 2 team who had an *insanely* hot goalie today.
Gotta figure out what to do with that third attack spot (wouldn’t hate giving Mclane another game or two to see if it clicks). Came away pretty intrigued by Matt Jeffrey- none of his shots fell but he can zip it as well as anybody out there. Hopefully the issues we saw today can get worked on and cleaned up against a worse slate of opponents.
100% agree. Utilize the athleticism/dodging ability of Faison/Jeffrey and get McLane back to the level he ended at last year. I was almost hoping they would give Ricciardelli some time back there today to see how he might mesh with their regular unit. Hopefully Pork or Behrman step up!I would go Faison/McLane/Jeffrey for 1st line and rotate various guys at the third attack spot to see what clicks. Thats probably how you get to your best 6 by the end of the year.
This is what I saw as well. The offense seems to really miss Dobson/an outside hammer who forces the defense to stretch and creates room around the crease and GLE. Not sure they have that on the roster right now and I think teams (particularly ones with good goalies) are starting to see this in-game and condense the defense around the crease, hence the offense slowing down in the second half the last two weeks.I didn't see the first half, but I thought Maryland owned the 2nd half. Maryland's defense seemed to frustrate our offense especially close by their goalie. Kavanagh had a nice game and I'd like to see Faison on the field more.
like the announcers have said it is looking like the Georgetown game from last seasonOhio State has 3x goals with 3 second or less on the shot clock. Continuously taking 80 second possessions and strangling ND like a boa constrictor.
I saw Nick Ossello give an interview where he said Corrigan basically freed up the players more on offense the past few years compared to the teams Ossello played on. Maybe the freer approach isn't working right now?ND is playing games right now like they have a super efficient offense and massive talent edge and can just “yolo” to victory… ride sucks, attack makes no sense, middies make terrible decisions. They are ending up in “grinder” games and coming out on the wrong side of the ledger primarily because of mental mistakes.
No we look like the teams from before the last two yearsI saw Nick Ossello give an interview where he said Corrigan basically freed up the players more on offense the past few years compared to the teams Ossello played on. Maybe the freer approach isn't working right now?
I think the attack has one assist total in the past two games. The issue is that they have true offball guy in Taylor, a dodge-to-score player in Kav, and then they are plying McLane … who is a third righty and mostly an offball guy as well… as their last attack. The offense has no QB and no balance due to the lack of a “Dobson” style lefty.I saw Nick Ossello give an interview where he said Corrigan basically freed up the players more on offense the past few years compared to the teams Ossello played on. Maybe the freer approach isn't working right now?
Good observation We had to use a makeshift rotation at SSDM and it really cost us. Seemed like almost all their goals were on matchups vs SSDM rather than the long poles. We’re not as deep as we thought.Definitely a tough start to the year. I didn't think they would miss QB Pat as much as they do, but they definitely are. I also didn't notice Alacqua, or Buchner at SSDM today? They ran Angrick at times, which is just asking too much, and #44 and #72 just looked outmatched.
The ACC has already lost a handful of out of conference games. ND might not have a lot of room for error now.
