Thought it was interesting he has made a decision, but he is announcing it tomorrow. BK just wants to tell us directly at his presser tomorrow I guess

I'm with you. I meant maybe he would just leak it out on the depth chart tonight then discuss it at presser.

Nah... Things are pretty tight up in the ND offices. Your best bet would be to look at some of the players twitter accounts but they know if they leak it, there are going to be consequences. We'll know tomorrow. :)

I think if it weren't Rees we would know already.

Wouldn't it be odd if what you did see was Dayne used in the alternative packages, kind of like what Charlie did with him in the Purdue game in '09 to help spell an ailing Jimmy. It just seems surreal that Dayne would just be relegated to a Sharpley-type role for the remainder of his final year on campus. (And if it's Rees-it WILL be Dayne's final year on campus)

I just got back and watched what was DVR'ed and have to admit that Dayne didn't play that badly when he was in there. Hear me out...

While he overshot a few passes, and had the interception in the end zone, he did put us in the right protections, set up the running game, and was plagued by a few drops.

More than anything, however, he looked scared to make a mistake after the interception. I don't know how he responds to Kelly being in his face on the sidelines, but his exterior demeanor makes it appear as if he is about to throw up. I (read my opinion is) think that he gives us a better chance to win because of his understanding of the offense, but he can't win if he is playing scared.

Discusss...

Yup... It makes no sense to withhold it at this point. I'm sure that 99.9% (my opinion) of the world expects it to be Tomas so I think the only surprise would be if it is Dayne. Also, if it's being released on tuesday, it's not going to be a surprise anyways so BK was just giving time to cover his bases, and rightly so in giving the kids a chance to compete on the field on a monday after a game, make sure there aren't any lingering injuries which might Tommy taking the ship and time enough to sit them both down and talk with them individually.

It's all about attitude. This team, right now, needs brash and cocky running the show. While Tommy doesn't convey that in interviews or pc's, you could see that energy as he was working to fire up the team coming out of the first weather delay Saturday.

I don't know if I have ever seen that from Dayne. You just get the vibe that the team is pulling for Tommy, if for nothing more than how they closed last season, regardless of how Rees may have performed in each of those games. He was the leader when things were their darkest, I have to think there is a psychological component to this decision now.

Love Dayne. Know this is Tommy's team. Giddy up.

I don't know if you can pull the plug on a guy with just a half of football under his belt.

Rees is the game manager type Qb and I think he can have a lot of success as well.

In the end I won't be terribly upset who is starting as long as Kelly believes that Qb gives us the best chance to win.

Dayne looked great in the opening drive. Unfortunately he seemed really uncomfortable/stressed/uptight thereafter and that seemed to impact his receivers who dropped more than a few balls that should have been caught.

There's no denying the offence looked more comfortable with Tommy at QB.

At this point I would expect Tommy but wouldn't be surprised to find out Dayne is the starter next Saturday

There are several instances ('Bama, LSU most recently) where you have a QB that is just that, a game manager. Tommy does play with a quiet confidence that seems to energize the team and the fan base. Just play, don't make mistakes, and allow your defense to keep you in the game.

We had so many opportunities on Saturday...we have to take full advantage of those going forward.

Rees reminds me a lot of McElroy from Bama, nothing flashy but gets the job done.

I'm ok with that. But I do think the playbook gets thinner with Rees in.

70% completions---24-34---296 yards of passing- -better then all but a handful of Qbs that played a full game and played cupcakes--- led us to # 15 ranking in total offense---and TOMMY IS A GAME MANAGER!--The kid is an aggressive passer with a killer instinct and unflappable--Wake up and smell the coffee!---Rees is the real deal and will be running this team for a long time.

Some people have a hard time accepting Rees as our best QB right now, after all he was only a 3-star, and he has a "low ceiling". Recruiting ranking aside, he gives us the best chance to win, sucks for Dayne, but it's obvious.

Was he unflappable in the USC game last year when he threw 4 pics?

No one is bashing Rees, he is not you're prototypical Qb. Does that mean anything? No. He is a distributor reliant on short passes and yards after catch. It's a different playbook with Rees in the game. That's all I'm saying.

Now saying after saying all that, he could be just the thing we need

He was also a freshman who a month before was thrown into the job. He now has another spring and summer in the system, and it showed Saturday. He made some tight throws that Dayne wasn't making. Really he only had one bad throw (the second pick). I think Rees is more than a game manager and will lead the Irish to a successful season.

Absolutely nailed it.

To piggyback on the numbers/stats theme: First half: 0 points. Second Half: 20 points

to me, there's your anwser right there, the rest are semantics

exactly, i forget who said it, but when dayne threw an INT in the emdzone he got scared to make a mistake, when tommy did the same thing (although it was more TJs fault) he maintained his cool. i like the term game manager, we dont need a superstar, just a confident, accurate, smart qb who is cool under pressure. let our D win the ballgames. we just need tommy to be consistant. Greg Mclroy wasnt Cam Newton at Bama during 09, but he was accurate and consistant, thats all we need this year

So you agree with me then? Why are we acting like game manager is a negative term. If you Manage to win that's a good thing.

Just saying you might be limited in play calling with Rees. Never thought my posts would spark outrage. If you read my first I said I'd be fine with whoever it is as long as they give us the best chance to win.

Maybe I should wait more than 48 hours after a loss to post
