That sucks for the fans. I wanna try to make USC in 2013...I can't fathom how pricey that's gonna be.

In my opinion that is bull. Didn't read the link to read about specifics but don't have to either. I've been to games for the past few years and the prices do suck. Obviously they have the people to pay for the ticket, but c'mon...help some of the average fans out and drop those things a bit, its not like ND is really hurting for the $$. If we are all about preserving that 'tradition' then how about going with old school ticket prices. Actually no clue as to how we've compared in the past, anyone with that info? Has ND always had high ticket prices?

I know times are changing and its more expensive across the board, but coming in at #2 in the country...that could be looked at and improved in my humble opinion. I'm sure there will be somebody with a good opposition but thats my stance and I'd stick to it!

Supply and demand.

Exactly, just be nice to see them make a move thats not all about the $ and caters to the fans! Give something back to 'the greatest fan base across the US" ya know...Obviously the product on the field the past 15 years or so hasn't be elite, and they are already making the move that could possibly force many of our fans to pay more for viewing two of the season games on tv in the future. Again, major...no, but from a PR stance, I'd sure appreciate it!

It's not ND. I got my tickets all for $70 or $80... plus my "donation" to be allowed into the lottery. It's the free market supply and demand that is reflected in the prices listed at the link. If ND starts off 4-0 that number will also jump drastically. One of my dad's friends sold an extra ticket for $2000 to the Bush Push USC game in '05.

Have you been to the ND bookstore? Anything with a ND logo on it is automatically 2-3 times more expensive than it should be; which, again, is fine with me, because it's a reflection of the strength of our brand that people will pay it.

Should we just give away jerseys as a way of "giving back"? Why not let everyone in for free then?

The profitability of the football and basketball programs supports every other scholarship athlete on campus, along with other things. ND football is a business; I'd like to see it become as profitable as possible.

It's not like anyone is being denied access altogether here. ND games are easier to find on TV nationwide than just about any other sports franchise in the country.

Yea, I get it...I'm just cheap ;) Not free just drop everything by $20! haha Always was a big fan of what the Packers did with their ticket prices in the past, kept that small town feel/we are here for the fans type of thing, but even those are on the rise.

THats what I was wondering, was it set ticket prices by ND...or scalped ticket prices they were observing. Again, I'm in a hurry and don't have time to read...will do later.

Perhaps this is blasphemy, but aside from huge games like Michigan and USC this year, I usually to prefer to watch from the comfort of my own home any way.

Big screen, comfy chair, delicious booze and snacks. I can actually watch the plays develop, and then see them again on the replay. And best of all, I can cheer and rage without fear of embarrassment.

Am I alone here?

I have only been to 1 ND game (1999 vs ASU at ND stadium, my best friends mom worked in ASU's athletic department and so I got a ticket) so I would love to go back again.

But in general I agree with you. It is much more enjoyable to watch the game from the comfort of your own couch.

It's not like they were using the face value price set by the University. Those tickets were undoubtedly averages of what the tickets are going for on the broker sites.

Even though it has nothing to do with this, I was curious about the student ticket pricing at Notre Dame. $200+ for an all-home game student package was a big surprise to me, especially considering how an all-home game student package at Alabama was <$50. Oh well, still got them regardless.

Nope. Except I like to try to see one game in person, each year. I may, or may not, make it to one this year. I may be transferring from Portland, OR, to *ahem* Columbus, OH, in October. If so, then I probably will not make it to a game. Unless it's a November game in South Bend.

All money generated by the football team goes directly into the University general fund. The Athletic department does not retain control of the revenue. As such, the football team per se does not pay for other non-revenue producing sports, nor is there an athletic slush fund created. All teams, football included, must submit a budget request for funding, just as every other department on campus must do, from academics through campus maintenance. It costs over a million dollars a day to run the university, and much more to fund the endowment through which underprivileged students ( and average privileged ones!) can afford to attend the University. While the cost of tickets are high, and have dramatically escalated in the last decade, it is happening in line with all other expenses for education. Take a look at full tuition Cost!

Of course (I think my avatar gives that away). Nothing like a ND game with a nice whisky (while the majority of my bottles are Scotch, I also have a fair number of Bourbons on hand).

:alcohol:

You should work some Irish into your diet. Red Breast 12 is what I use to bring Scotch drinkers over to the dark side. 12 year old pot still gives it a nice full, oily taste. Doesn't have the off-putting sweetness of Bushmills or the unrefined bite of Jameson (although Jameson 12, Gold, and 18 are nice drams). And if you really like peat, Connemara has it in spades (I call it shamrock scotch).

I do have a 3 Irish whiskeys in my collection currently open (Redbreast 15, Bushmills 1608 400th annivesary and Jamesons Gold Reserve) but statistically that is about 3% of my 100 or so open bottles(80ish Single Malt Scotch, 12ish Bourbon, 5ish Ryes, 3 Japanese, and 2-3 other).

I do agree about Connemara being very good (Peat and pears) and Jamesons 12 is one of the best bang for you buck whiskeys out there.

If you like Redbreast 12, I say spring for the 15yo, only $20 more here and it is 46% abv instead of 40%.

During the 3-9 season, I bought extra tickets several times each time the avg ticket price was under $25. I wished I waited most times because people were giving away tickets at the game.

Another issue is that they're talking about average ticket prices. ND charges a lot for its premium seats, which drives up the average. They also charge their students something closer to the actual cost of the tickets. Most schools don't charge their students anywhere near the same amount.
