NFL Talent?

Is there anyone who has stepped up their performance so far this season and finally entered the NFL picture?

Everyone knows guys like Abriamiri, Quinn, Samardzija, McKnight, and Zibby will be picked rather quickly and make significant contributions.. but who else is up there?

I would imagine Carlson or Freeman have a chance to impres the scouts. But what about a guy like Ndukwe? For guys like these, I have a tough time determining whether the best they will ever be is a 'good college football player' or whether they have what it takes to be seen on the field on Sundays.

So, what are your thoughts?

I think Ambrose will turn heads come combine time.

Chinedum has been making a good argument so far showing off some newly acquired wheels without sacrificing the big hit ability.

A few lineman will have shots, Harris and Sullivan are probably locks

Id say

Quinn Samardzija Zibikowski Harris and Sullivan all 1st round depending on need

Abiamiri second rounder

Chinedum and Ambrose 4th rounders

Thomas maybe a 5-6 guy due to versatility

Fortunately, Thomas has another year to improve his draft position. With his athleticism, another year to adjust to LB should really help him.

I don't know how much Abiamiri is getting double and tripled up...haven't watched the PSU game yet since I had to tape it. I saw most of the third quarter. I assume GT and PSU have paid attention to him quite a bit.

Ndukewe is this season's Stovall, and that would include the slimming down and high rising NFL stock from September of his senior year to draft time.

The two go hand in hand.

He was getting held a BUNCH. I mean, hands full of jersey and right in front of the ref. He is getting a lot of attention and that is why he has been ineffective.

Svo beat me to it. Abiamiri is going to have to go the shirtless route soon, he gets held so much. There were some blatant no-calls. That is one of my biggest fears this week heading into our third of 5 straight weeks with Big Televen refs.

It's not a Defensive lineman alive who doesn't feels he being hold. Double or triple teams doesn't matter. Big time lienman find way's to get to the Q.B.. Abiamiri needs to find away to get to the quarterback. Let's stop making excuses were trying to win a national championship here.

There's the holding that takes place on nearly every play and yes, you are correct. They should break those holds and get to the QB. But what was happening to VA on Saturday was blatant and should have been called on a number of occassions. Nobody's making any excuses for him. But the Big Televen refs sure gave us some if they were needed.

Us playing against Big Ten refs is not unusual. All i wnat is some sacks.

Of course it's not unusual. We start this season with 5 straight games. We got some sacks yesterday. But the holding against VA was about as bad of a non-called batch as I've ever seen. If you have a copy of the game, take a look.

Ryan Harris

Ryan Harris is getting beat every third play. Bad foot work (slow feet)
Victor Abiamiri is getting held on every other play. He needs to learn to use his arms to tomahawk those holds off him. Start swinging your arms early and get those f**kers off of ya before they can get a hold of you.
Morton and Santucci are getting their heads on the WRONG side of their blocks every 4th play.
Sam Young is, oddly enough, the most solid lineman we have on the front line to date.

Do you know the nature of the injury that kept Harris out of most of preseason practice?

He still doesn't look like he's in top form.

i saw the holding too. on one play it was obvious from home that abiamiri had broken clean away from an offensive lineman who was literally grabbing his jersey from behind to drag him down, and no call was made. i just feel that if a home audience can see it, that easily maybe the ref should.

First sentence, agreed 100%. Second, I adamantly disagree. I don't care if you're Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor or Bruce Smith: a double and/or triple team makes a pass rushing end FAR less effective than that same man going one on one against a tackle.

Abiamiri should be beating most tackles one on one, especially the average ones. When you're double and triple teamed, however, you're asking a lot of an end to make big plays against consistent double and triple blocking.

I hate to jump the gun, but sooner than later just based on sheer lack of numbers, most of this team will be composed of players recruited by the current staff. You'll start to see a noticeable difference, mostly in regards to raw speed.

I don't see how Thomas gets to the NFL. I really don't. Maybe as an extra running back/special teams guy, if anything. He's too small for COLLEGE linebacker, which makes him way too small for pro linebacker. I don't think learning safety is a realistic option, though you never know.
