Troubling comments from irishwavend. You cannot cry wolf (say there's anti-Catholicism) and say those type of things. If you do, you are a hypocrite.
Look, Weis got out coached. Whoever said that is right. Whoever the DC was did a poor job. He should have learned from the Michigan game, but instead, he fell into the EXACT SAME TRAPS that doomed us. First, he tried to stop short runs up the middle and medium range passes. So, what does OSU do? They throw it up top. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Next, you need to have a weak side OLB spot Smith in case he runs. What happened on key 3rd and long situations. Smith scrambled for 1st downs. Your DC really screwed up this game. He had a game to go on, but instead he failed to learn from other teams' mistakes. And the offensive playcalling wasn't that great either. Why did Weis abandon the run so early? Why did he try to go up top in the 1st quarter? I mean, did he really think OSU's linebackers were just going to sit there and give Quinn all day? And forget Quinn winning anything next year. He cannot make good decisions under pressure or when the play is busted. This was clearly evident today and when I saw him a while back. Quinn is the beneficiary of Weis, who usually calls great games where first options are always open. Today was an exception, of course.
This game should have been 45-7. I think this is a huge setback for your program. You can't lose by being dominated by the other team (offense, defense, coaching). And what was really funny was Weis saying after the game about gambling. Well, I guess what he meant to say was "OSU is much better, so we have to gamble to win" Yeah, great coach you've got there. I just can't wait until next year when we annhilate you guys in a revenge game.
Normally I find the anti-Catholic angle overworked. But the night before New Year's I was sitting in a bar with my wife and friends when the owner called me over to the bar. An Auburn fan with his back to me was expounding on the two team he hates the most, Alabama and Notre Dame. I found that curious as ND and Auburn have never played and most Auburn fans I know including my brother and sister-in-law Auburn alumni relish that ND had whipped Alabama 4 out of 5 games and Bear Bryant never could beat ND. I didn't say anything and the Tiger fan as the owner asked, "I understand your dislike for arch rival Alabama where I went to school but why do you hate Notre Dame? The Auburn fan angrily replied, "Those damn catholics cheated Auburn out of a BCS Bowl for two straight years. We need more SEC coaches like Spurrier to vote them down because all the papist coaches vote them high. The SEC has to stop them!
"At this point I asked, "How did an unranked ND team knocked Auburn out of the BCS last year?" He turned around and eyeballed me and asked who I was. The owner replied, "The ND on his hat doesn't stand for North Dakota. He's our resident Irish fan. Oh, and he follows the SEC as well as the ACC, Big 10, Big 12, and PAC 10, so don't run your mouth unless you have a clue what you're talking about." The Tiger fan paid his bill and left without another word. The conversation took place about a mile from SEC Headquarters.
Does that make SEC refs into a anti-catholic conspiracy? NO! Does it mean that there are bigots in SEC land, you bet! Just like in Wolverineland.
And Yes, Victors Valiant, Quinn did benefit from Weis's coaching and playcalling just as Henne has thrived under Carr's tutelage. Good coaching has a way of developing talent as you can testify. By the way, how many championship rings did Tom Brady win with Lloyd?
Your kidding us about being a Wolverweasel aren't you? You're really a Duckfan in afraid to admit it. No Wolverine, well no sober one anyway would post, "I just can't wait until next year when we annhilate you guys in a revenge game". Lloyd couldn't beat a Weis in his first year as a college head coach with only 3 returning defensive starters. Hell, he only beat Willingham once in 3 tries. Michigan's lost 3 out of the last 4 while ranked 7th, 5th, 8th, and 3rd. ND was ranked 20th, 15th, UNRANKED (UM's only win), and 20th.
If you are a misinformed Wolverine, keep practicing that Stanford Band play. It was your most potent play in the Alamo Bowl. By next year you should have 9 laterals down pat and can probably all the way to the 10.
And if you really are a Duckfan, shame about that San Diego trip. Win your conference next time and control your own destiny.
