On the one year anniversary of the verbal commit of LB Aaron Nagel, rumors are spreading like wildfire across the ND message boards that a new commit will be announced today. Is this based on solid info, or wishful Irish dreaming. I have no idea, but I guess we will find out later. Hopefully, if it happens, it will be another LB, and the Irish faithful will remember March 6 each year as Linebacker day, which would be a good excuse to go to the bar of the same name for a little early St. Patty's day celebration.

Anyone else hearing anything?

Names being most prominently mentioned are Cwynar, Filer, Rudolph, and McDonald. Remember it is all still rumors. McDonald may have left his desire to go to ND so far out of the bag earlier this week that he may be the one, but I am purely guessing, nothing substantial to back it up. However, there does seem to be solid info that there will indeed be a new commit announced today.

I love how 3 out of the 4 verbals are up front on the o and d lines especially since we've only brought in 5 line players last year (Williams, Nuss, Nwanko, Romine, and Dever).

Cwynar will be playing Defensive End in the 3-4. All indications are that Corwin Brown did a magnificent job of recruiting Sean. Is this the beginning of a Defensive Renaissance for Notre Dame. Only time will tell, but let's hope so, and congratulate Sean Cwynar for becoming Irish, and also CW & CB for being able to land an elite Defensive recruit so early in the process.

So it wasn't a linebacker anyway, but all you domers in South Bend (of legal age only, obcourse) should still go to the Linebacker to have a few cold ones for those of us far away from the Golden Dome.

it doesn't have to be a lb. I like getting the d-line help alot more than lb. this guy is a very ggod player and will be putting pressure on the oppossing qb for years to come. with golic and cave and adding sean to it already is a good class to start off with. I look for some elite d recruits this year with cw and cb putting more attention on d.

Totally agree ND1, Cwynar is a great pickup with a national reputation that bodes well for the rest of the 2008 Defensive recruits. Cwynar wants to be for the Defense in 2008 what Clausen was for the Offense in 2007.

The allusion to the Linebacker was just in reference to my first post, and obcourse the bar.

nah don't get me wrong it would have been just as good if it was say mcdonald. but I just feel we need d-line help worst than lb. I really hope we get mcdonald and a few more elite defensive players to go with what we already have.I totally agree about going to the bar and drinking a few.

This is great news!!! What I feel is our weakest link is getting someone like Cwynar to commit so early. I will have to try to see him play sometime this coming fall.

Sean Cwynar's comments regarding why he committed to Notre Dame clearly illustrated the power of the Notre Dame campus. Cwynar is coming to Notre Dame, not just to play football, but to be a part of all that is unique and special about the University of Notre Dame. The education, the tradition, the mystique, and oh yes, to play for a pretty damn good football team.

I was once told by an ND admissions officer that 90% of the students who have already been accepted by ND, and who take the campus tour (which is always run by current ND students) end up enrolling at ND. After reading Sean Cwynar's comments about the campus, you can understand why.

Thank god we got a STUD D LINEMAN THATS ONE GOOD ONE TOO. I saw film I loved what I saw can you say All-American potential. CB did a heck of a job. Man he really made a impact real quick on recruiting defensive players stud ones too. Keep it up now I will take a breath and say how about seconds CB Filer sounds real nice about now and McDonald as well. But we got one DE time for another. But next should be a LB prefferably Filer.

For any of you out there that might have doubted how good a recruiter CB was going to be, I think we are starting to see that yes he can recruit. He was the best "commit" we got this past recruiting cycle. Man, makes yuo wonder what the fuck Minter was doing out on the recruiting trail. If CB is going to make this big a difference in recruiting can't wait to see how the D plays next year. Oh and Cwynar's a great get(figured I would mention him since it his thread.)

I dont know how bad of a recruiter Minter was, I mean up until LOI day we had or were in on some major D prospects. I think the switch to the 3-4 hurt us in recruiting more than anything else.

I agree that the late minute switch didn't help our recruiting efforts, albeit Brian Smith was a great add for the 3-4. And I agree that Minter wasn't a terribly recruiter, he did nab Harrison Smith as well as spurring the interest of other top recruits who decided in the end not to come to ND, and I'm sure knowing that Minter wasn't going to be there didn't help our chances with them.

But so far, CB seems to be doing a good job with the new recruiting season.

Please guys do not make the landing of a great recruit like Cwynar turn into an argument over whether Minter was or was not a bad recruiter. It is too early for comparisons between Minter & Corwin Brown, and in any case should be the subject for a different thread. Let's just celebrate in this thread ND's good fortune in landing an elite Defensive Lineman who is Irish all the way.

Good point, back onto our latest greatest recruit.

Sorry haven't been on in while college is harder than I thought lol. This is one kid who I really wanted from the get go. He has the perfect size to be a strong side DE in the 3-4 scheme. I'm telling u this right now, with a strong senior season, this kid could be a 5 star type player, I really believe that. The only reason hr wouldn't be is because he is not a showy "pass rusher type" Anthony McDonald will commit next week. Mark my words.

Any chance Cwyner could be an early enrollee? With the lack of depth there it would be nice.

Same question goes for any of the defensive front 7 guys leaning or who have us high on their list.

Maybe but once I think about it, he'll probably wait until April and tell Charlie face to face. I think he has his mind made up though. This would be a HUGE get! I'm hearing a lot of good things about this kid. He is definetly the top LB in Cali and that is saying a lot.
