Can anyone help me out with a Netflix problem I've been having since forever? I'm streaming at 40 Mbps through my bluray player and for some reason I can't get an HD picture. I can stream Amazon Prime in HD on that device no problem, and I can get Netflix in HD on my phone and tablet. It's only the specific combination of Netflix and this device.

There are different levels of video quality for purchase on Netflix. You might not have the HD one.

I do. Like I said, I stream in HD just fine on my phone and tablet.

I think your ISP provider might be forcing Netflix to pay them an extra fee or they won't let Netflix provide you with the HD you want.

I'm pretty sure I had the same model (I replaced it because of this issue).

Take a read. Is this what you are experiencing?

BDP-S185 Netflix buffering / stalling - Sony's Community Site
Not quite but close enough. It never buffers, it's just poor quality the whole time. But I imagine it's the same issue.

It'll probably be cheaper to buy a Fire stick than replace the player, so maybe I'll go that route.

Fire Stick is the truth if you already pay for Amazon Prime.

I've got Chromecast, and a newer Sony (BDP320 I think). Been thinking about going to the Fire Stick, or Fire TV as well. I've got Amazon Prime, just don't use it all that much. Mostly I'm just streaming movies or TV series (I've downloaded from various sites) via RealPlayer or streaming from my SlingBox. Trying to figure out what I want to do with the TV outside by the pool. I have a full PC in a HTPC case hooked up to it now, but it's a pain when all I use it for is streaming.
