A lot of times the band will start out playing it slow, then play faster and faster as they go. This prompts students doing the Irish jig to speed up as well. I love the Rakes of Mallow too.

Here's the speed it typically starts out before it speeds up. Band does sometimes start out fast as you mentioned if there isn't much time to play it given the game/timeout circumstances.

The bagpipe group on gamedays also has a version they do that starts really slow, then speeds up as well.

This is the version I really like. This version sounds....I don't know... "bolder?" Perhaps more grandiose?

I could be wrong and I’m definitely too lazy to look it up, but I thought the first year that trumpets under the dome got moved was during COVID. I want to say it was even explicitly announced as such.

It then never came back and the admin started citing stability of the building, which is also probably true, but it always kinda felt to me like they just never really cared to bring it back. But I’m no architect.

They started to do it out front didn’t they?

Yeah, I can't say for sure when exactly it stopped. I tried to get there before every game, but 2017 was the last recording I had for the Georgia game, was late getting to South Bend for FSU in 2018, and only went to Louisville Away in 2019. I know for sure after COVID it hasn't happened. It's really sad if the structural concerns were just an excuse not to bring it back. Videos do not do it justice, it gives you chills when you experience it first hand.

[EDIT] Found some videos of Trumpets Under the Dome for Vandy 2018 and USC 2019. From what I've seen in some other videos people are saying it hasn't happened inside since COVID. A lot of people want to move it back to the Dome for obvious reasons. I only found one video of them doing it in 2021, but it was just the trumpets with no fans.

Correct, it just isn't the same really without the acoustics of course.

Fuckin' love it! For 30+ years I've been following the band from the dome into the stadium before kickoff. There's something about the drums reverberating off those brick buildings as you make your way to the House that Rockne Built, it's awesome. I love the energy, and the crowd cheering them on as the band goes by. It's my favorite pre-game tradition now that the Trumpets Under the Dome is no more.

It'd be nice if the band was there in Miami for what's probably the only significant away game this year.

I don't think they've had the band for a true road game since the opening game in Columbus against Ohio State in 2022.

I can't imagine they will, given the distance and likely the humidity and the fact that they didn't travel for the A&M game last year.

After my first Notre Dame football game in 1984 and experiencing the band that's when I decided I wanted to be a drummer. So I did. All thanks to that thumping sound going through my body.

I still get chills playing them at 48 years old. 🤣

It's been my Dad and I's tradition to watch the band march into ND stadium before we go in. It still gets me pumped up for the game (if we could get flyovers for every game).
