Speaking the obvious, but we could use finishing 2,3,6, or 7.

I'm more trying to avoid SCAR (since they're such a thug team) than Connecticut, since you have to play them sooner or later anyway. We need to play vs finesse rather than brute power.

FINAL #12 OSU 98 #4 MD 87

FINAL #12 OSU 98 #4 MD 87

OSU is not going to fold.

MD went on a 14-0 run including 3 treys to close out the 3rd period and come within 2 pts. Unlike Syracuse, the Buckeyes stuck it to the Terps in the 4th Q with a 9 pt edge.

Terps weak schedule is going to hurt them. This was only their 5th game against a Top 25 ranked team.

Must be the rim at the Bears end of the court

Must be the rim at the Bears end of the court

Horns were hot shooting in the 1st half while Bears were cold.

Switch ends at halftime and Bears are shooting 63% to Horns 25%.

Gotta be the rim.

Kristina Nelson of Notre Dame Fighting Irish to return for 5th season
Associated Press

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame reserve Kristina Nelson will return for a fifth season.
Coach Muffet McGraw announced Nelson's decision on her radio show Monday. Nelson sat out the 2014-15 season while recovering from shoulder surgery. She has played in 27 of the team's 28 games this season, and is averaging career highs in points (3.9 per game) and rebounds (3.1). She had eight points Thursday night in a road win over Clemson.
The senior still needs to get approval from Notre Dame's faculty board. She will not join Lindsay Allen and Diamond Thompson for senior night recognition Thursday before the fifth-ranked Irish host Boston College.

KoKo is depth AND if she can improve as much as she did from last season to this one she would be a quality replacement.

FINAL BU 70 UTx 67.

BU scored 25 pts in the 1st half scored 25 in the 4Q and 45 in the 2nd half.

I was watching the second half until about 3:00 minutes to go and turned it off. It was evident Baylor was going to win once they tied. Texas was afraid to go inside and they just looked confused on offense.

Marina Mabrey Claims ACC Player of the Week :: Notre Dame Women's Basketball :: UND.COM :: The Official Site of Notre Dame Athletics

Feb. 20, 2017

By Leigh Torbin

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Following her third consecutive 20-point game, sophomore Marina Mabrey has been named the ACC’s Player of the Week for her role in lifting the fifth-ranked Irish to a pair of road wins this week – in the process reassuming sole possession of first place in the elite conference.

Mabrey averaged 25.5 points in victories at Clemson and No. 21 Syracuse, shooting 62% from the floor, 55% from three and 93% from the foul line.

On Thursday night at Clemson, Mabrey scored a career-high 29 points, 24 of them coming in the second half, to help Notre Dame dodge an upset. The New Jersey native shot 11-of-16 (69%) against the Tigers from the floor and hit all four of her foul shots.

On Sunday at No. 21 Syracuse, Mabrey kept Notre Dame in the game with 13 first quarter points while the Irish weathered a ferocious early Orange onslaught before a women’s record crowd at the Carrier Dome. She made nine of 10 free throws against the Orange including a crucial pair with 10 seconds to go and the Irish up just 81-80.

For the season, Mabrey leads the Irish with 16.1 points per game in ACC play and stands third on the team with 14.3 points per game for the whole season. She has six 20-point games in league play, including a trio of games where she has netted at least 25 points. Mabrey also has 38 assists in league play (2.7 per game), second on the Irish behind just Lindsay Allen.

Nelson Returning For Fifth Season :: Notre Dame Women's Basketball :: UND.COM :: The Official Site of Notre Dame Athletics
Feb. 20, 2017
By Leigh Torbin

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Pending approval of the Faculty Board on Athletics, Notre Dame’s Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Women’s Basketball Coach Muffet McGraw announced Monday night on her weekly radio show that senior Kristina Nelson is expected to return to the program next season and compete as a graduate student in her fifth season of eligibility. Nelson sat out the 2014-15 season while recovering from shoulder surgery.

Listed as a senior for 2016-17, Nelson will not join Lindsay Allen and Diamond Thompson in the Senior Night recognition slated for pre-game on Thursday night as the fifth-ranked Irish play host to Boston College. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 6:40 p.m. to take part in the senior tribute ceremony.

Nelson has played in 27 of the team’s 28 games this season for a career-high total of 308 minutes (11.4 per game). Nelson has scored 104 points (3.9 per game) and grabbed 83 rebounds (3.1 per game) on the season - both career highs as well. Nelson’s contributions off of the bench have helped lift the Irish to their lofty 25-3 overall record and 13-1 mark in ACC play. She was most recently called upon critically for a 21-minute, eight-point stint in relief of foul trouble-saddled Brianna Turner on Thursday night as the Irish staved off a fierce upset attempt on the road at Clemson.

Often referred to by McGraw during preseason as one of the team’s most improved players during the offseason, Nelson started the season with eight points and a career-high nine-rebound performance on opening night against Central Michigan on Nov. 11. She has been a lineup regular ever since, including pouring in a career-high 13 points against Pittsburgh on Jan. 12. Nelson showed her ability to pass out of her post position against Wake Forest on Jan. 5 when she had a career-high five assists, joining six points and six rebounds, in an Irish win over the Demon Deacons.

RE: Marina

Maybe the most awkward looking player ever to "star" for Muffet, but impossible to argue with the results. Sometimes it looks like her upper and lower bodies are doing completely different things, but somehow those hands control the ball and get it going towards the basket. That play vs Syracuse where on a drive the clamp came down, one defender knocked the ball partly loose, and still, in the midst of the body-banging ruck, she patted the loose ball between both hands, re-secured it and got off a shot --- "different" doesn't cover it.

I've given up thinking those non-conventional body-posture drives are bad plays. ... just sit back, eat a little popcorn, roll the eyes, and watch the point totals rise.

https://theundefeated.com/features/skylar-diggins-little-ballers/
BY TRUDY JOSEPH Feb 22, 2017

Great article about Skylar giving back and working with the man who taught her basketball, her dad.

Little Ballers Indiana is a three-part episode documentary that will premiere March 3 on Nickelodeon. The film gives a look at the Sky Digg Soldiers, Diggins’ AAU team for girls, ages 11-12, and their journey throughout the AAU season. The team is right out of South Bend, Indiana

...

But for Diggins, Dallas isn’t the only team she’s playing for. A hometown hero in Indiana, she reps South Bend hard — especially the young girls.

The Sky Digg Soldiers are coached by the man who coached Diggins when she was growing up — her father, Moe Scott.

Thurs 7 PM ET BC @ #4 ND WatchESPN

Thurs 7 PM ET BC @ #4 ND WatchESPN

Thursday is Senior Night for Lindsay Allison and Diamond Thompson. Kristina Nelson will forego Senior Year this year as she has announced she'll be back next year for a 5th season.

Boston is not having a good year. They're 2-12 in the ACC, 9-18 overall. They've lost 12 of their last 13 games. The only win in that span was UNC 88-77. Among those losses was an 80-69 loss to ND in mid January. Marina had a 21 point game while Bri almost had a 19 point double double.

Sagarin makes ND a 32 point favorite over the 135th ranked Eagles on his Recent Rating Model. That same model had ND about a 29 point over Clemson, a team they beat last week by 4 points in a tough battle.

ND averages 79.2 ppg while allowing 61.5 ppg, 17.7 point differential. BC scores 58.9 ppg while allowing 63.9, negative 5.0 point differential.

With luck Westbeld will get to rest her ankle. A solid game by Boley could make that happen. No word on Kat's nor Mychal's availability.

This would/could be a nice convergence of the stars ... if we coasted, then not only might Kat be able to rest, but Muffet might be able to let Diamond play significantly in her last regular season game on her senior day.

That would be a nice thing ... so I'll pray a little prayer for it.

Arike with the team play.

Stole the ball, drove down court, took the ball into a crowd but dished off to Mabrey behind the arc for a trey. NO BASKET, BC called for a blocking foul on Arike.
