We're just tougher with the lineup of Allen, Loyd, Turner, Cable and Reimer if she's paying attention, or Westbeld if she's not. The key ingredients of the toughness are Allen and Cable. I wish there was a way to transplant Mabrey's arm on to Madison's body. {I intuit that Cable's problem is that she just doesn't think that this is her role with the "stars" out there, and hesitates too much. I used to teach a little shooting, and wish that I had a preseason to lean on her to balance/Zen/deliver.} Muffet has decided that when we have to put a stop to the just-too-lax defensive sequences, she subs in Cable every time.

Wish we were bigger
Wish Mabrey were tougher.
Wish Reimer was on the job every play.
Wish Madison would shoot without hesitation.
Wish Jewell would stop inconsistent passing.

BUT we're still damm good.

It's good to see westbeld improve and add tough minutes. Her with turner and Reimer could be awesome the next two years. What happened to mychal? Is she injured?

ND didn't come close to their season average but I though this was one of the best games they played this season. Still was 40 minutes of the A game but the passing was crisper. The defense strong.

Duke's got a height advantage and was expected to have a rebounding edge. Early on they did 10-2, then ND turned that around with a strong run. Cable and Westbeld (in for foul troubled Reimer) turned the reb gap around and just about everybody from ND was hitting 3s.

Lody and Allen owned the taller Greenwell holding her to 4 pts on just 5 shoots, 10 pts below her average. Greenwell fouled out on a charge drawn by team leader Cable.

Turner had 4 blocks for 59 on the season. She trails Ruth Riley's freshmen record by 12 blocks, well within reach.

Loyd Leads No. 4 Notre Dame Past Georgia Tech, 71-61 - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

Jewell Loyd led the Irish with 31 points.

Loyd, a junior, had her fourth 30-point game of the season and seventh of her career. Both are ND records.

Cable 11 rebounds, 5 Offensive, 9 pts on 4-5 shooting,1 assist, 1 steal in 24 minutes of PT.

This was the first time the Fighting Irish had only one player score in double figures since March 8, 2010.

Turner had three blocked shots, giving her 62 on the season and making her just the fifth player in program history to record 60 blocks in a season (Riley did it 4 times, Peters did so twice, while Matvey and Barksdale did it once) -- Peters had the most recent 60-block season with 78 in 2011-12, while Riley is the last Fighting Irish freshman to hit that mark with 71 in 1997-98. Turner needs 11 blocks to tie Riley's Freshman Record.

ND picked up its 25th win of the season, the sixth consecutive year the Fighting Irish have reached the 25-win mark.

ND has clinched a top-four seed and a double-bye for the 2015 ACC Tournament

IRISH EXTRA: McGraw and Robinson Go Back to Early Days of Irish Women's Hoops - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

IRISH EXTRA: McGraw and Robinson Go Back to Early Days of Irish Women's Hoops
Former Notre Dame point guard delivers yet another assist with coaching endowment, 28 years after she first called a play for Notre Dame's Hall of Fame head coach.

By Curt Rallo

Feb 20, 2015

...

McGraw said Keyes represents the standards represented by Notre Dame women's basketball.

"Our program is more than basketball," McGraw said of Keyes. "This is a historic event for every woman who ever played at Notre Dame, just to know that at such a male-dominated school it's great to have the first endowment (of a head coaching position) be for the women. The reaction has been positive everywhere. There's a lot of buzz about this.

"It's important to me that we build strong confident women. We want women who can go out into the world and make a difference. We want them to feel that way when they're here, that they have made a difference. We want them to continue to do that through the alumni association, in their communities, wherever they go."

Notre Dame Women's Basketball Expands Pink Zone Efforts This Season - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

Notre Dame Women's Basketball Expands Pink Zone Efforts This Season
Pink Zone merchandise on sale, donation boxes in place for Monday's home game vs. Louisville (7 p.m. ET on ESPN2).

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Although the University of Notre Dame women's basketball team already held its official Pink Zone game (known nationally as Play4Kay) back on Feb. 1, defeating Wake Forest, 92-63 at Purcell Pavilion, the Fighting Irish continue their drive to raise funds for breast cancer research.

At Monday's home game against No. 8/7 Louisville (7 p.m. ET on ESPN2), Notre Dame will be supporting the Pink Zone/Play4Kay initiative, while also giving local fans the chance to help the cause in the event they were not able to attend the Feb. 1 Wake Forest game due to poor weather in the South Bend area that afternoon.

Donation buckets will be stationed at Gates 8, 9 and 10 of Purcell Pavilion for fans to offer monetary contributions for the Pink Zone/Play4Kay cancer awareness drive. There also will be numerous Pink Zone/Play4Kay items up for sale at designated tables located in Heritage Hall on the upper concourse on the north side of Purcell Pavilion (opposite the team benches).

For Monday's game against Louisville, the Notre Dame players will wear special white uniforms with pink and navy blue trim, as well as pink sneakers, while the Fighting Irish coaching staff also will be outfitted in various pink items.

The Fighting Irish have raised nearly $750,000 in donations for Pink Zone/Play4Kay during the past six seasons, including better than $125,000 last year (among the most in the nation by a Division I program).

Once again this year, all funds raised by Notre Dame during its Pink Zone campaign will be divided between a local recipient (the Foundation of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center) and a national charity (the Kay Yow Cancer Fund).

For more information on the 2015 Notre Dame Pink Zone initiative, please visit the event's official web site: Page Redirection.

Re: Georgia Tech game.

Our bigs were challenged again. Turner handled it. As usual Reimer sometimes handled it. Westbeld showed her "froshness" and needs to get stronger and more intense. Mabrey was better, but Muffet still had to go to Cable to stabilize us, especially defensively. A nice little flash occurred with Huffman. Her defense on the GT star harassed every shot for about four minutes, and the duress caused numerous misses. She actually was the most effective at stopping the GT star. [much moreso than Jewell]. [AND it's not a bad idea NOT to exhaust your scoring star on a bigger opponent scorer]. Huffman may develop into our Madison-replacement for next year.
