Both ND and USC played 6 winning-record FBS teams.

ND offense:
33.5 pts/game, 6.27 yds/play, 459.0 yds/game
USC defense:
28.8 pts/game, 6.01 yds/play, 454.0 yds/game

USC offense:
24.5 pts/game, 5.08 yds/play, 364.2 yds/game
ND defense:
31.8 pts/game, 5.33 yds/play, 372.0 yds/game

ND has a slight edge in stats, but the game
is at Southern Cal...

These stats mean almost nothing considering they play different opponents aside from Stanford. How is this relevant? Just curious.

Well that's not very nice. Understanding how many points an opposing team gives up/Scores against BCS teams seems relevant to me and may indicate how close this game may be.

winning-record teams. Both played exactly the same
number and no creampuffs or statistics that play up
to (or favor) their respective strengths are in this
comparison.

In effect, the numbers reflect performance against a
similar or "common" opponent. The SOS (strength of
schedule) becomes comparable and this is as near as
an apple to apple comparison as you can get without
playing the same teams.

Thank you for your interest...Tom

They should (we hope) score more...

They should (we hope) score more...

ND hasn't scored more than 24 points at USC since 2000

USC gave up 28.8 pts/game against better teams this year.
Unfortunately, ND gave up 31.8 pts/game in the same
situation:(

We can only hope.
