ND VS. UNC postgame discussion

terrible defense period! Thats all i got to say.

Since chuck has taken over the defense has been terrible. Always giving up tons of yards, always giving up 3rd and longs etc etc. When was the last time we had a defense???? Honestly I'm not impressed with Corwin Brown or John Tenuta to tell you the truth. And how does a 3rd string qb have a career day against us???? I have seen high school defenses that is better than ours. We need some serious help. And by the way, this is the reason we arent ranked and shouldnt be until we can beat a good team on the road.

ND had 473 yards to UNCs 299. 5 TOs will kill you everytime, and the Defense didn't turn it over, did they? Clausen had 384 yards passing, but 3 his TOs (including the pick 6) killed them.

UNC only had 99 yards rushing. It was turnovers and nothing else. We kinda played like scUM did against us, turnover wise.

True. But i'm tired of seeing us get gashed week in and week out by teams. Especially converted cornerbacks to running backs and 3rd string qb's.

I was all set to take a loss here but this is hard...

hard fact is this... CW has real trouble in big games... no bowl games... 0-3 against USC... this was a game that would have shut up a ton of haters.... now they will sound off extra loud just so we can hear them one last time just in case next year really does bring us back...


next week is now the biggest game ND has played is two years at least EASY

I agree 100% I mean hell, we knew our dline was going to be weak. We lost one of our premier defensive backs with Walls, The only thing that lost this game for us was the 4 (actually 5 if you count the last play) turnovers. They scored 14 points of our turnovers. Take them away and what is the score. Give certain players and coaches hell if it makes you feel better but the truth lies in the turnovers.

I agree with the turnovers being the main cause, but there were still other factors. Giving up 1st downs with 3rd and long a few times, especially the 3rd & 18. Also, if we had any faith in our kicking game we could have one this one also. I was angry during the game, because we should have won this one. I must admit that I am happy to be 4-2 at this point though. I still find it differcult to keep my emotions in check with the Irish, it is the one area that I still act like a kid. That being said, I just want them to get to a Florida bowl game so I can see them play this year.

I agree that turnovers kill, but, we have reason to look up. Yeah, i think we should have won this game. The defense didn't play as well as they should have. The offense made mistakes too. However, a majority of those mistakes wouldn't have been made by players that are older. Both of Jimmy's INTs are fixable, the first one in the third quarter, the ball probably shouldn't have been thrown there. The second one, there was a miscommunication, something that will work itself out the more Clausen and Floyd play together. What I am trying to say is, our offense is improving every week, with exception to some turnovers, we played an outstanding offensive football game. I would much rather lose like that than we did last year, when we were just praying we wouldn't get shut out. Things are looking up for Notre Dame football. We know it wasn't going to be a one year turnaround, we'll still take our lumps but come next year, that will make our team that much better.

How can you be disgusted. You can see this team getting better every week. The turnovers were the only real negative of this game. Some will say the D gave up too many yards, but they played decent. The biggest reality most are learning about our D is that our D Line is just what every one thought mediocre. You have small guys with average talent or youth who are forced to play before their time. I have loads of optimism about our future. The O is becoming scary good. Let's keep our heads up. I said 8 wins before the year and still believe 8-9 is likely.

I watched the game at a sports bar and could not hear the commentary. I thought it was just a great play by the defense to jar the bar loose. I thought he was down though and it should have been ND's ball with 5 seconds left. After the spike (NC should have been flagged for offsides or too many on the field) ND should have had one more play.

That's what it looked like to me.

it looked like floyd was trying to flip the ball to someone. maybe they were running the hook and ladder or maybe he thought there was no time left. the refs made the right call, the ball was coming out before he was down. bottom line is we had our chances and we didnt win, but think about our last road game. this was a much better peformance against probably a better team. we were never going to win a nat'l championship this year. all i wanted to see was week to week improvement, and i am definately seeing that. is this the same team that barely beat sdsu 6 weeks ago? no, we are much better now

The play should have never happened. UNC got hosed by the refs on 3rd down. They should have been kneeling on the ball to kill the clock at that point.

no, it was the right call on the previous posession. the rule clearly states that you have to maintain posession all the way through the catch. the unc receiver did not. the refs were right on both calls.
