Dave Brandon @DaveBrandonAD
It will be an exciting night at The Big House again! @umichfootball will play ND in prime time and honor Tom Harmon as U-M Legend!
Thoughts?

Edit: More information can be found here.

ANN ARBOR, Mich.-- The University of Michigan football team will face Notre Dame in a nationally televised primetime game at Michigan Stadium in 2013, it was announced Tuesday (Dec. 11) in a joint announcement with ESPN. The athletic department will honor 1940 Heisman Trophy winner Tom Harmon, installing him as a Michigan Football Legend during a pre-game ceremony.

The actual game time and ABC/ESPN platform for the Sept. 7 contest will be announced at a later date. This will be the third consecutive night game played between the winningest programs in college football history.

Need to put this one away early.

It will be interesting to see what their offense will be like next year. Do they have a pro-style offense now?

Everett is 100x better now than he was when we played them. I would expect our offense to be much improved.

Long way out still.

Excited but disappointed.

Michigan plans on honoring Tom Harmon, the 1940 Heisman winner before the game and giving his number to a player with the Legends patch (what happened with Desmond before the 2011 game).

Tom Harmon was the greatest player in Michigan Football history. Nobody should get to wear that number, ever again. He did everything. Passed, rushed, caught passes, played defense, kicked, punted, returned punts and kickoffs. He even received a standing ovation in columbus in 1940 after Michigan won 40-0 because of his outstanding performance in that game.

He later went into the military and fought in WWII. He was shot down by an enemy and walked to safety. When he came back, the doctors said he was too banged up to play offense ever again. So he played defense in the NFL. His son, Mark Harmon, most noted for being on the NCIS program on CBS played QB at UCLA. He didn't want to come to Michigan because he didn't want to keep being compared to his father and obviously the expectations would be higher than a skyscraper with his last name.

Thanks for the back story, I was not aware of any of that. The night game and pageantry will make for a great atmosphere in Ann Arbor for the Irish to come in and administer a beatdown. Reps.

Damn, seems like the greatest most indestructible guy ever. Harmon vs Diaco.... Ticket sales would be amazing.

Ann Arbor is a whore.

I know that this will fall on deaf keyboards, but I would like to see this phrase retired.

Some 20 years ago when ND released a computer CD of the Alumni directory, the first classmate I searched was Ann Arbor. I was working alphabetically. She was not an intimate friend but a valued acquaintance via a number of classes we took together.

She had passed away.

She was far from a whore. She was one smart and classy lady – not to mention cute as hell.

I respectfully disagree. One of the best things that both nd and tsun do is NOT retire numbers. What a great thing to see the nd number 3 and the Michigan number 1 on game days. Think it's a much bigger honor for a talented youngster to extend the legacy of your number than to see it collect dust, unused, unremembered.

Michigan actually had his number along with 11, 47, 48 & 87 in retirement until this season where each of the ones listed save 98 was given out to players.

I just don't think there will ever be another player or person to live up to what Harmon did. As a athlete and an American. He nearly had two Heismans.

Don't forget last game in Ann Arbor for a while. I'm sure ND will get something started up again with UM once they got to get this ACC stuff straight. Still, its going to be a while.
