ND vs. Michigan State

I'm from the East Lansing area so I hear lots about Michigan State Football. How John L. Smith is soooo excited about the season and all that stuff. The Lansing State Journal had a preview for MSU and 1 guy had ND win by 8 and the other had ND lose by 3 in OT. How do you think Notre Dame is going to do up in East Lansing this year? GO IRISH!

The ND players will be ready to go. there's no way we lose that one... not that I'm not taking it one game at a time.

I think ND is going to win every game. I imagine any ND fan would feel the same at heart, or would hope so. Even fans of bad teams are entitled to feel that way before the season starts, and with a top-3 team, we should certainly believe we'll win every time out. Weis will not coach a game that I don't expect him to win. Any time he loses, I won't have seen it coming.

I honestly believe we're going to murder them. What MSU has almost always had going for it year in and year out was the fact that they were somewhat of a 'bleep' on the radar.

But after that flag-planting incident..... ND will have an emotional outburst. One of my cousins is a die-hard O$U fan who can't stand ND, but he even admitted that was the stupidest act a football team could commit.

Irish win by > 21.

I can sum it up this way...

"The next flag they plant will be all white, and it'll be surrender." - Lou Holtz

scUM-Fredo's weaknesses last year were special teams and D. They have a new kicker (bound to do better than last's year's 5 of 16 FGs) and three JC transfers on D. If ND wins this year, they'll beat a better bunch of Sparties than last year...

48-14 similar to Purdue game last year, over by halftime

Brady Quinn will put himself at the front of everyone's Heisman list with 5 td's

That Purdue win felt great. In the Willingham era, I think I first became genuinely depressed with that Purdue blow-out at home. Seeing Stubbelfield sprint by a fallen Ellick while waving the #1 sign...killed me.

Hopefully you're right about it.

Which won't mean much, considering they really werent even very good last year. When ND woke up in that game, they routed MSU. That team was crouching in a corner crying by the last couple minutes and just praying there'd be a miracle and they'd survive to overtime. They did. This year the whole game will be like the 4th quarter.

What bothers me about the MSU game is that it is on the road.

Other than that, they will need to prove a lot to people after last season. When JLS tossed everyone but the trainers and ballboys under the bus last year, I don't think he really endeared himself to anyone in the program. Pretty good example of a jerk I'd say.

My friend Maison brings up a great point: MSU's biggest problems were D and special teams. The Penn State-MSU game last year was an abysmal display of special teams by Sparty, maybe one of the worst I've seen. Should be interesting to see how they function as a team this year if and when the going gets rough.

Be happy with being on the road. Weis is good at it...and frankly, we are able to win there. MSU seems to be able to win at ND. Let's hang one on them in Spartan Stadium...and BIG spanking.

wow. i like the enthusiams about the d$ck stomping everyone thinks the Irish are going to give MSU, but i'll be happy with just a win. MSU makes me nervous, and will continue to do so until ND proves they can win consistently against them again. Even our wins against them in recent years have been shaky at best.

that said, i'm SO ready for the sun to rise on this season and burn the "good feelings about this team's chances" fog off the playing field. everybody hypes their chances in the off-season. what else would they do? admit they've got problems with the team that are symptomatic of a fractured program and questionable leadership?

please. MSU showing promise this year?

3. Sports: A team out of final contention that defeats a potential or favored contender and thereby thwarts its chances of winning a championship.
4. Any competitor, entrant, or candidate WHO HAS NO CHANCE OF ULTIMATE VICTORY BUT DOES WELL ENOUGH TO SPOIL THE CHANCES OF ANOTHER.

Im not "hating" on your Irish fans, but you have 3 pretty tough games before our game. Take it one game at a time...

Anyway: Im expecting another close game, probably in the favor of the Irish. Both offenses return alot, and both defenses are improved.

According to our head coach, John L. Smith, our players planted the flag because someone in South Bend forgot to bring the Megaphone. I dunno if there is true to this, but thats what he said during a press conference. If that is the case, this is being over-blown.

I completely agree with this. GT first, then we worry about the skunkbears and so on..... MSU will still be there.

In the mean time, this is a great board. Hang around. You'll probably read some opinions you don't like but remember these are ND fans and the opinions will be slanted thusly. There are a couple good UM fans here, but not much else as far as other fanbases go. We did have a rather nasty duck infestation last year. We got tired of stepping in their crap, so we got a little Nintendo on them.

Sorry, but coming here as a Spartan fan and defending the indefensible (with a nonsense explanation, no less) is pretty much "hating" on we Irish fans. The flag-planting was obviously classless garbage. If you can't admit that, there's really no hope for you.

I dont know if Notre Dame forgot to bring the Megaphone on purpose or not, but the Trophy was supposed to be at the game. Our coach took offense to that...whether it was done on purpose or not. I personally dont whoever is supposed to take care of the trophy didnt bring it to the game on purpose. But as I said, we took offense to that. I can find the quote from his Monday press conference if you like?

Im not really expecting you to agree with me. Ill leave it at that.

Edit: That came out a little funny. I meant that I dont think that the guys at Notre Dame forgot to bring the trophy just to be jerks.

Spartan Pride, I'd ask you to forgive Waldo's discourteous finger in your eye greeting but he's not an Irish fan, he's a Troll. Attack mode is his normal demeanor. He'll savage fans, players, coaches, reporters and now opposing fans. I'm surprised he didn't drop his racist tagline on you for the white flag incident.

If you want to talk football, welcome to the board. If you want to talk smack you're on the wrong board. That will get you on the Ignore List in a hurry. Waldo's has a commanding lead on that list.

I agree with your observation, ND has 3 challenging games to get through before East Lansing. When we do so, MSU is ripe as the trap game.

The '66 game was the rivalled as The Game of The Century only by the '46 ND/Army game with Davis, Blanchard, Lujack, and Hart. Four Heismans played that day. In both games both teams left the field battered and exhausted.

In the '66 game, ND lost RB Nick Eddy, the Darius Walker of the day, to an injury while travelling to the game. ND's AA center, George Goeddeke, the Ryan Harris of the '66 OLine went down in the first quarter in a battle with Bubba Smith. ND's Brady Quinn, QB Terry Hanratty also was knocked out of the game. His replacement Coley O'Brien who took insulin shots to control his diabetes played most of the game.

ND doesn't have the depth on this team to lose the likes of Quinn, Walker, and Harris and hold off what was the #2 team in the country.
