We are not talking enough about this game and it is starting to worry me. It's already Thursday and there hasn't been much BYU chatter on this board at all.

BYU and Tenn are the most disconcerting games left on the schedule, IMO. stanford, navy and syracuse are basically "girlfriend" games. (meaning, if you HAVE to miss a game because your girlfriend/wife is hounding you to do something, one of those games would be the ones to miss).

i ALWAYS get nervous about gimmick formations, and BYU is a prime example. They have the potential to backfire, but they also have the potential to confuse and frustrate, and provide a weaker team with an opportunity to win.

i'm nervous about this game. i think the irish win, but it'll be closer than the line, that's for sure. but what do i know? i've been conditioned over the past 10 years to believe that the irish will perform poorly after a big game. weis is changing that perception, but i've yet to fully recover.

the counter balance to the letdown factor after so cal SHOULD be the revenge factor from last year's game. the vast majority of our players have seen BYU in action on the field, so i'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't get suckered by the gimmicks.

The worst bit of coaching I saw during the TW era was the inability--no, the REFUSAL to make adjustments against BYU's 3-3-5. They had that staff and offense stumped. It was miserable watching that same bubble screen and the same runs over and over. There were weakness in that defense. It is an attacking defense, which always leaves something open. They simply refused to look for it and exploit it.

I have no fear of that ever happening again. The bottom line is the talent here is superior, and we finally have a staff that make the adjustments to put that talent in position to win.

I like the point that you said about the last 10 years.I feel I've recovered from that.
all last week I kept telling myself to keep the faith after trying to tell myself that usc was going to blow us out in the end
I can look at the 3-3-5 and the passing game of byu,but in reality,we have the better team and with notredame starting it's home opener this weekend(i like that)no contest,It may be close at first, but the offense will wear them out.
the defense will fall for a few gimmicks and that's going to happen, but remember
NO FUMBLES or INTERCEPTIONS,and we win hands down.
I have to keep the faith,my blood pressure couldn't handle all the 3rd down conversions of the usc game, lol.

Damn, man, if I'd been drinking Dr. Pepper when I read that, I'd be sending you the bill for a new keyboard. ;)

Jigga,
Don't worry. WE're not playing on Sat. As long as CDub has them focused about BYU, that's the main point. I believe that we, the fans, are suffering from an emotional letdown this week, as we put so much into the two week buildup to the "last game of last season". So, relax. Cheer and watch a comfortable victory on Sat.

this game will be close or a blowout. either the gimmick formation works or it doesn't. no in-betweens.

Why are we so worried about BYU? If San Diego State can figure out how to beat the 3-3-5, I think C-Dub can handle it.

Don't worry, Cougars... you'll always have '04.
