This current Michigan team is where I see NDs program heading over the next few years. We will be much more athletic but still have the shooters.

Dont let this game fool you. Missouri is a veteran, athletic team. Anyone who thought this was winnable wasnt being realistic. This team will be fine. Just a bad early season matchup.

I think any time you declare a game against the #21 team as "unwinnable", you pretty much concede the team may not be fine.

Mizzou is a good team. They're athletic and they were making most of their shots, despite some decent defense. I don't think anybody expects ND to do very well this year, right? I'm thinking .600 record, NIT. Next year should be fun. There's a lot of young talent on this team.

I don't understand why people still don't get it. This program is a sinking ship under Brey. He needs to go before we can get anywhere

I don't think Brey is very good, but it's not just his fault. ND usually doesn't get very talented recruits. Most of the top recruits are one-and-done players, and they're obviously not coming to ND. We usually don't get the solid, inner-city players because they either don't have the grades or don't want to play second fiddle to football. The way college basketball is now, ND has reached its ceiling: decent regular season record with a few mildly athletic players, one good shooter, one or no go-getter, and one horrible player who shouldn't see the court (Hillesland, Scott Martin, etc.), and an annual upset by a bad but infinitely more athletic team in the tournament. Every once in a while, we might get to the Sweet 16, and that's fine with me. As it is, you can't win championships without star players, and ND will probably never have a true star player.

You know, that's a great point. It's amazing what Stevens does with that team. As you said, they're not exactly stacked with talent either. I think for them, they usually have a fairly weak conference schedule, and then their system and discipline carry them through the tourney against better teams. Obviously, Stevens is a great coach, and if we could get him, I'd say fire Brey in a heartbeat. But he's probably never going to leave Butler unless someplace like Duke, UNC, or KU ask him.

I ever tell you guys how last year at a Muncie Central High School (where I was attending) basketball game I ran into Brad Stevens (of course before the tourney and his second straight trip to the NCAA title game) and got an autograph from him on a basketball program.

I lost it before the end of the night. ><

When that team is athletic and full of veterans, and our team is breaking in several new starters and freshmen, and its the 5th game of the yr, yes I can concede that they will be fine.

Yeah, because Brey had done soo well with talent and experience, right? At some point, I'd like for ND to stop getting upset by bad teams in the first or second round. If we could get to the Elite 8 once every three years, I'd be ecstatic. If we can get to the Final 4 once in a decade, I'd be orgasmically happy. With Brey as the coach, I won't hold my breath. There will always be an Akron, FSU, or Washington State ready to upset ND in the first or second round.

If Hillesland is horrible, you don't watch a lot of basketball do you? Scott Martin and Zach Hillesland are much, much better than horrible and quite frankly your insults are ridiculous.

I watch plenty of basketball. I played basketball. So why don't you tell me why Hillesland and Martin are so good? They are at best, adequate defensively, pretty much only because of their length. They are decent at best at rebounding. They are liabilities offensively due to their lack of shooting ability, inability to finish at the rim (as evidenced by Hillesland's litany of missed dunk attempts and layups), absolute inability to handle the ball, etc. So tell me, oh basketball guru, what do they have that makes them so good?

Rankings don't mean anything. Especially since Brey can't get his team to stop choking in the 1st two rounds of the tournament every year against inferior teams (and that's if we even make the tournament).

I'm not being negative. I'm just keeping it real.
