ND Google Transfer

So the incoming mass deletion of alum data on their ND google drives is only a week away. I'm trying to transfer my data, and got this very disturbing email from Google

"Problem with your Google content transfer
There was a problem with the Google content transfer you started on Nov 7, 2022, and it didn’t finish. Try starting a new transfer, or talk to your admin. Learn more
Some files couldn’t be copied or transferred. A list of these files is attached. Learn more"

However, no list of files was attached. I have a decade of extremely important and sensitive information on there. ND admin is, of course, being completely unresponsive and unhelpful. I'm honestly a little freaked out. Does anyone know what I should be doing here? Has anyone successfully transferred all their data?

I thought they cancelled this. Did they not? Are we losing our alumni emails?

I didn't have as much as it seems like you have, but I just put everything into one folder and then was able to just download that folder.

Disturbing sounds a little extreme. You could download the data to a flash drive to external could you not?

Yes, they have backtracked on the email but they persist in deleting all alumni's google drive files

Could you clarify on what you mean here? I don't have that much in terms of data size (only 12 GB I think) but lots and lots and lots of word and pdf files. I am attempting to download everything to my PC, but am getting tons of "unable to create a sensible filename" and other such issues when attempting to unzip. This is just an utter nightmare. "Notre Dame Family" indeed

I'm trying to do that and am getting heaps of messages saying stuff like "'invalid file name' and "the system cannot find the path specified" for a number of files." It is clear lots of things are being lost.

And yeah I'm comfortable using the word disturbing given that 1) the amount of storage I use is covered entirely by Google's free plan 2) upgrading to 100 GB storage per user is $0.99 per month. I have a decade of data on there that the Golden Dome couldn't bother to charge me $12 a year to maintain.

EDIT: yeah so I just downloaded "everything" and double checking the downloaded folders against what is currently in my Google Drive it is clear things aren't making it through and getting lost. This is just an absolute nightmare and a great reminder of why I tend to look back on my time in south bend with rose colored glasses

File transfers can be affected by the connection. You might try again, but do it in smaller batches instead of trying to copy them all at once.

This thread is a foreign language

You can translate it as: "the priests are greedy and are making things difficult for young alumni"

See if you can keep it for $8 per month.

That's the sickest part of all this, they won't even offer that option.

Good idea. Looks like I'm basically going to have to do this manually.

I don't know if this is your problem , but I did just notice that some of the files that I didn't "own" didn't download. When I tried downloading just those files, a bunch of them came up as possibly containing a virus and that I had to download them individually.

I think this might be part of it. Also there are filenames that are totally fine sitting right where they are, but because they have a weird character in them or something they fail to transfer/download/whatever. Seems like the only option for me is to try and comb through these manually, or hope none of them were that important...honestly this is just a great way to take me off the alumni high i've been riding since saturday night and dissuade me from any potentially rash decisions giving them any money

If you are this pressed over a few gigs of old emails/killer slides and/or $12 a year they would probably just assume you keep that hard earned money.

Simping for the gigantic hedge fund that also operates an academic and football unit is telling behavior. But regardless, it's part of a pattern. The mandatory three years on campus, shuttering dorms because they were mean to EHH, and so on. If anyone has nice things to say about university admin they're telling on themselves

Right, because the only alternatives are simping ain't easy or throwing an internet hissy fit because I don't get an eternity of free access to my Chemistry class notes. Lulz.
