IrishEnvy: most bipolar website on the internet?

Just kidding, but only because you put that disclaimer in there.

I read this article yesterday. It just makes me mad about the Tulsa loss. Also I'm surprised more Bowls don't want ND as a tie in? I wonder if the conferences are trying to force them out?

Military Bowl would rock because it is in my backyard. I think it's crazy FCS wins count at all.

If it can't be the Champs Bowl ( obviously I want the 7 wins ) then I want the Pinstripe Bowl. I live 5 minutes from NY.

I don't know if we'll be tapped, as we'll have already played a game in their stadium. Plus I doubt the Big East will gladly hand over their spot (and its' recruiting potential) to ND so that they could instead go to Birmingham (to fight over recruits in Bama's backyard). Still, it would be nice...

I've heard conflicting reports whether the 7 win rule (i.e., a bowl can't take a 6 win team if a 7 win is available) applies this year. Can anyone confirm?

No personal knowledge myself, but came across this over at SI...

With a win over Army this week, Notre Dame will become bowl eligible and available to any game with an at-large spot to fill. I placed the Irish in Las Vegas. Note, there is no longer a rule preventing 6-6 at-large teams from being picked above candidates with better records.

Even with 8 or 9 wins ND's bowl options are extremely limited aren't they?

Yes, because you have to take into consideration that if they don't get the BCS spot they are fighting for BE spots and a few left over at large spots. Plus we have restrictions due to finals on timing. The Hawaii game a couple of years ago was a rare thing for the Irish.

That Maaco bowl is December 22nd. I wonder if ND would accept a bowl that early? I heard there were issues with the Hawaii Bowl.

I think there would be big issues with this.

It goes bowl by bowl. Seems like the Champs Sports Bowl is one we'd really need 7 wins for.

Kinda off subject. But if Hawaii doesn't get 6 wins in a year, who plays in the Hawaii bowl? I know they usually get 1 spot as soon as they win 6. So what if they don't?

My friends wife is an exec for Florida Citrus Sports (responsible for Champs Sports Bowl) and according to her Notre Dame will not receive an invite unless they win out. At least that is the way things are right now.

It's come up before: they didn't go in 2007 or in 2009. It's a C-USA or PAC 10 school vs a WAC team. Though they've already accepted this year's invitation.

St. Petersburg bowl or Champs Bowl would be awesome! Have a place in Florida an hour and a half outside Tampa!

can notre dame sub for any big east team

can notre dame sub for any big east team

There seems to be a lot of discord on the web about whether ND can sub for any Big East team. Many sites say the Irish can be picked in lieu of any big east team. The Big East site itself suggests only the Champs Sports Bowl can select the Irish instead of a Big East team. Pinstripe Bowl can take the Irish if no Big-12 team qualifies. Other than that, I don't see any specific arrangements.

Could the Meineke Bowl take ND for example instead of selecting a BE team?

I realize it's an early bowl, but my dream matchup as a Cougar fan would be BYU v ND in the Vegas Bowl. For one, having the Irish in Vegas is probably the only way BYU would get invited as Utah is more desirable right now. I doubt though, that Vegas would want to stage a rematch so quickly after the Irish laid the beatdown on the Utes.

Is ND absolutely opposed to such an early bowl game?

Future Calendar : Office of the Registrar : University of Notre Dame

It looks like ND's finals end the 17th. I assume they either shut down or severely limit practice time during finals week (starting the 12th) and reading period (10th) so, in the end, it will probably be Kelly's choice. An early bowl will mean less practice right before the game, and we can all be pretty sure that the only reason we want a bowl is for the extra practices...

FSU or more likely Miami could be our opponent if we win out and make to the Champs Sports Bowl

I would love to go to the Champs Bowl, but that is a long ways off because first we have to beat Army, then travel out to LA and play our nemesis and beat them. It's going to be tough, but it is doable if we play the kind of football we are capable of playing.
