Notre Dame attractive to BCS bowls iif Irish keep winning - ESPN

"I can tell you that four BCS bowl directors are hoping they finish 10-2 and in the top 14 in the BCS poll," Catlett said.

and

But there has been plenty of speculation that the Irish could be left out at 10-2. With TCU or Boise State likely earning an automatic BCS berth, and the Southeastern Conference virtually a lock to grab an at-large bid along with its guaranteed spot, two berths likely would be left. The Irish could be competing for those spots with USC, a team that beat the Irish last month, the second-place Big Ten team and others.

pretty good ESPN article for once

10-2 does not guarantee anything except another whipping in a BCS game. I want us to thrash whomever is in the Gator Bowl and work our way back to winning Bowl games first before we get into the BCS again. I just don't think that this team would do any good against a team that can pass...which is everyone but Navy. So 10-2 may not get the Irish into the BCS. And I would be fine with that, as long as ND won their bowl game this year, too.

This is a terrible attitude to have philip.

As a team you always want to get up against the biggest and best competition you can. Even if it means the chances for a loss are greater. Usually when you go into those games as an underdog you have a lot more to win than lose.

Also, ND can use the experience from playing one of the elite programs in the country, it will only help them to get stronger.

And on a final note...NDs defense has really turned the corner. This team has looked a lot better the last 4 weeks than it did the first 4. Given the progressing youth on the team, I can see ND competing with anybody by the end of the year and being a force in 2010.

Look, I have watched ND's pass defense get torched so routinely that an elite team would just shred us. Who knows who else ND might meet in the Cotton or Gator Bowl, instead. There a lot of teams that have been considered elite that are just a little off--like OU--so maybe ND could just get back to back consecutive bowl wins, keep their offense intact, learn better pass defense and then be set up for a really nice run. I am just being realistic. Not only that, but the chances are very slim anyway, that even with beating Pitt, the Irish may not be able to swing enough votes their way. Then again, if it happens, I'll be cheering just as hard as anyone.
