If this holds out, and even if ND moves into the top14, pack your bags for the Gator or Cotton bowl, more likely the Cotton against a Big12 team. Not the SEC like I thought. The SEC gets the bump if ND goes Cotton bowling, and it would really be up to ND to pick. Since both the Gator and the Cotton would select a 10-2 ND team, ND gets the choice. That choice would be Texas because of more dough and lots of tradition in that game.

I'd rather play a Big12 team than an ACC team, personally.

So lets say

loses to Pitt. What bowl game do you think we would play in? What team would we most likely play against????

If we're in the Top 14, we are going to the BCS. They're not going to select both Boise State and TCU.

USC will get a spot if they go 10-2
The Florida/Bama loser will get a spot
The higher ranked TCU and Boise will get a spot.

The only concern I have is Texas losing in the Big 12 Championship Game or Penn State going 11-1 and not winning the Big 10. I really don't see either happening.

I guess you're assuming Iowa is gonna lose twice in their remaining three games? I could see a loss to Ohio St., but Minnesota or Northwestern?

Iowa beat Penn St., so they'd hold the tie breaker. Unless Iowa loses two out of three, that gives them the Big 10 title, and Penn St. a possible at-large bid.

Unless I'm missing something, which I totally could be.

I think we would be chosen over Iowa as an at-large if Iowa finishes 11-1 (losing to OSU) and OSU wins the Big 10. The only way I see the Big 10 getting two teams chosen and pushing ND out of the BCS is if Iowa goes 12-0 and Penn State goes 11-1, or if Iowa goes 11-1 and Penn State goes 11-1 where Iowa would win the conference.

Just read on ESPN post that if the Irish are in the Top 8 in AP polls then we automatically get BCS bid...is there any warrant to this? I'm going to check out BCS site real quick.

The AP polls have nothing to do with the BCS.

As I see it Florida, Alabama are locks. Texas is a lock and Iowa will win the Big10 with PennSt getting an at large. Cincy, Boise/TCU and Georgia Tech will be in, as will Oregon as Pac10 champ and USC atlarge. I don't see PSU or Iowa losing any more games.

Yea I didn't think so, I just found this on the Official BCS site...

4. "Notre Dame will have an automatic berth if it is in the top eight of the final BCS Standings."

I didn't know about this rule.

Top 8 in the BCS poll is an automatic bid for ND

If OSU shows up they can beat Iowa and Penn State but who knows if they will

tOSU D is real. Their offense is terrible. Facing Iowa's D and PSU, I have all confidence in both beating the sweatervest.

ND will always be the first at-large chosen unless if there is another at-large in the same city as that bowl (i.e. Miami in the Orange Bowl). Top 14 is a guaranteed bid because of our large nation-wide fanbase.

Maybe so... but if Ohio St. beats Iowa and Penn St. and wins the Big 10, I'm not sure if they'd choose a 10-2 ND team over an 11-1 Iowa team. It's possible, but that would be pretty controversial.

Ohio State needs to beat Penn State this weekend though.

If OSU beats Penn State, we're pretty much guaranteed in if we go 10-2. Otherwise, we really don't have much of a chance unless we get some help along the way.

Pitt may wind up being ranked somewhere around 12-14th going into our matchup next week. If we win, on the road, against a solid opponent, in a crazy enviornment, I dont see how ND cant get into a BCS if they win out.

Folks,
The destiny is in OUR hands. Win the remaining games and we are in the BCS. Do not worry about others. ND has to win 4 games.

That was how I felt about it until USC lost yesterday...

Now a 10-2 USC will get in over us as an at-large
The Florida/Bama loser will get in
The Higher ranked Boise/TCU will

And now if Penn State wins out and doesnt win the Big 10 (pretty likely as long as they beat OSU) they will probably get chosen at 11-1 over us

I think they would pick us over Iowa, but an 11-1 at-large Penn State team would most likely get in over us

Did I meet you yesterday? That's exactly what the guy sitting next to me said. And he had a laptop with him. At a sportsbar (boobies).

I was always under the assumption that ND needed a top 8 to get in automatically.

ND has a tough road ahead though. Tougher, given the injuries. Like I said many times before, I would not be surprised with a .500 season or somewhere close. And all but 2 games have been close, and we are banged up. Glad the backups got some reps.

No way will ND make it into the top 8 for an automatic, but if they are in the top 14 I would say it is a 99% chance they get in because of the fan base and the revenue associated with ND. We don't have a playoff because of revenue, so I doubt they are going to care much about a single bowl matchup when there is money to be made off of ND.

if we win out, a BCS bid will be ours. if we lose another game, we will have to settle for a cotton/gator type bowl. just my thoughts...

Nothing would make me happier than to see us get in over Penn State. If Joe Paterno's going to spend his remaining days bitching about Notre Dame he might as well have a reason besides jealousy.
