First about eight minutes of this game were the sweetest basketball I've seen this year [out of anybody]. We really need Achonwa on the floor. More than anyone else on a REALLY good total team, our center is SO essential [to every thing we do]. They may make Kayla and Jewel All-Americans, but it's still our big Canadian for my money.

And as to that, I was REALLY glad to see that Muffet is bringing in a high-quality 6'3" and 6'2" this coming year. If Notre Dame can protect our DBoards, we are very unlikely to be beaten. and, just once, I'd like to see Muffet get a mobile "giant" one of these years --- a 6'5" or 6'6". Ruth Riley 2.0, where are you?

McBride Leads #2 Irish To 81-70 Win Over #7 Duke - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

Notre Dame improves to 7-0 this season against ranked opponents, including a 5-0 record against top-10 teams.

the Fighting Irish have won six of those seven games against Top 25 opponents by double digits, the lone exception being an 87-83 win at No. 8/6 Maryland on Jan. 27 (a game Notre Dame led by 22 points late in the first half)

Achonwa grabbed the 900th rebound of her career (she has exactly 900), making her the sixth Fighting Irish player to reach that mark.

freshman guard Lindsay Allen now has 102 assists this year, becoming just the second Notre Dame rookie in the past 20 seasons to register 100 assists as a freshman (Diggins had 112 in 2009-10).

Allen is going to blow through 112.

At this moment the only game I can see them losing is against UConn in the Final Four and I think they may win that game too.

This team is the whole package.

They also don't have to play them 4 times a year. They get one shot at them and that is enough.

It just sucks it will be in the Final Four and not the National Championship

I like this team's attitude, every time they go out on the court they seem to play with tenacity and aggression. If they continue to play that way and not get bored or complacent, I think they win it all!

I couldn't believe, after the announcers put it out repeatedly during the game, how few of accolades individual performers from ND's team have received this year.

No freshman player acknowledgement.

One ACC player of the week.

All season.

Is that accurate?

Loyd was chosen as the ACC Player of the Week via a vote of the conference's Blue Ribbon Panel. She becomes the second Notre Dame women's basketball player to earn the award in the program's inaugural ACC season, following the path of senior guard/tri-captain Kayla McBride (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), who was chosen for the honor (along with the espnW national award) on Feb. 3.

No. 2 Irish Defeat No. 14 UNC, 100-75
Kayla McBride scored 28 points and Natalie Achonwa added 24 to lead Notre Dame

Feb. 27, 2014

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Kayla McBride scored 28 points and Natalie Achonwa added 24 to lead second-ranked Notre Dame to a 100-75 victory over No. 14 North Carolina on Thursday to finish the regular season unbeaten at home.

The Irish (28-0, 15-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) opened a 22-point lead late in the first half and led 55-38 at intermission. The Tar Heels (21-8, 9-6) rallied in the second half with a 10-4 run, highlighted by a three-point play by Xylina McDaniel, to cut the lead to 61-51.

McBride hit a jumper to spark a 6-0 spurt as the Irish regained control and eventually led by 28.

Notre Dame shot 52 percent against the Tar Heels, which had been holding opponents to 35-percent shooting.

McDaniel led UNC with 18 points and Diamond DeShields had 17.

The game was Notre Dame's Muffet McGraw's 1,000th as a head coach, improving her overall record to 742-258.
