Navy is jumping the the short crossing routes tonight
I may be parsing but not sure "jumping" the short routes is actually what they're doing. On the first pick the DB was on the inside shoulder of the receiver and then went 270 degrees clockwise around the back of the defender ... then stepped in front of the receiver to make the INT all in one continuous motion. I associate jumping with the DB being slightly behind the receiver or to one side and jumping in. In this case he went all the way around the receiver while the receiver seemed glued to the turf.
On the second pick #96 Perkins lined up on the LOS and charged two steps forward on the snap before falling back into pass coverage. Con's QB hit him head high for the INT about two steps on the defensive side of the ball.
The DC faked the coverage and sucked the QB in. Well executed defensive play. As Irishsize noted, "Not your dad's Navy defense."
Thanks, Bryce.
