Punter "couldn't handle the punt snap," really Reece?

The snap was high and to one side. The punter took a half step to his left and caught the snap shoulder high, brought the ball cleanly down to waist high, rotated the ball with both hands to get the laces up, then the ball SLIPPED out of his grasp as he takes first step. Then he gets smothered by an untouched defender.

Considering the half step left, I don't think he had the luxury of the time to toss the ball in the air to rotate the ball to get the laces up. He needed to initiate his step to kick the ball regardless of where the laces were. But, Reece, he handled the snap.
