Wabash - I agree with you that it wasn't Charlie's fault directly; however, someone has to take the blame for losing to the Naval Academy for 2 out of 3 years. Maybe that's Weis, maybe it isn't. Prior to Weis, ND hadn't lost to them in 41 tries(Weis has beaten them 3 out of 5 times in his tenure). Just Sayin'
Obviously the coach gets credited with the "L".
The '07 team was bad. Ty's recruiting ineptitude hurt but ND still should have won.
Navy is a much better team this year but ND still should have won.
Weis put the team in a postion to win. They didn't.
Navy was expected to grind out yards and control the clock. They did.
ND was moving the ball from the start and fumbled and lost the ball. Navy recovered and scored 7 turnover points. ND's offense had NONE.
ND missed 1 FGs. We have a freshman kicker. Carney didn't make them all. Hentrich didn't make them all. Weis didn't fail to execute the kick.
Clausen and Floyd had a miscommunication on a play where Floyd got him on the numbers (of his back) while FLoyd was BLOCKING a defender. The receiver to the right of Floyd was open waving. But the ball was already thrown. Did the receivers see something Clausen didn't? Were they right and Clausen wrong? Regardless miscommunication caused a turnover , 40 yds of field position, in addition to the game deciding score ND didn't get.
ND was - 3 in Turnovers. That's a benchmark for failure in football.
How many of the Turnovers were Charlie's? None. But he gets credit for them all. His guys made them.
On the last two sacks by Navy which Tackle slot was Weis playing?
ND's masssive OLs were beaten by 265 pound Two Star Defenders.
That last sack was the difference in the game.
The ND Defense did what was expected of them despite all the protests. The Offense and Special Teams failed to execute and score the points they were supposed to.
Congratulations to Navy.
Jeers to the front running ND fans on this board.
