Ok...I have waited a day to post to let everything truly sink in.
I unfortunately was only able to watch about 1/4 of the actually live game due to having to work...so when I came home last night I had a relatively clear head watching the game, knowing we had already lost, and having seen some updates from people on here.
1.Our defense played like giants last night. They played magnificently.Until about 10 minutes left in the game when Diaco for some reason decided to stop blitzing. That completely changed the momentum of the game.I don't understand the mentality of the coaching staff last night. We dominated that game last night, and when you do that you have to step on their throats. To me it felt like watching a boxing match, one guy is down for the count, the other boxer goes to his corner, turns around, and the other guy knocks his *** out.
2.If Tommy Turnover has any real chance of starting next season then I am automatically off the Kelly bandwagon. This kid has completely proven he does not belong anywhere near a football field.A smart football player does not make the kind of throws he makes. The only truly great throw he made last night was the Floyd drop.Even his TD pass was a terrible throw.I can live with the first INT because it didn't affect us at all, immediately the next play we cause the fumble and return it for a TD(Nice job Motta!)
But his last Pick just absolutely astounds me. I have watched it over and over again, and it is just plain dumb.Goody was covered like a blanket, and had ZERO shot at it. You cant make a throw like that with 3minutes left trailing.
3.Anyone that says there is a possibility that Floyd quit on the team last night needs to get their heads examined. That kid has given his all for the team the last 4 years, and came back his senior year to try and do something big with them.He is a class act and would not do something of that nature. His injury didn't look deathly serious, but it was enough to keep him out.
4.Besides our QB situation next season, I think our biggest concern by far are the WRs. Everyone pray we get Eifert back, because if we don't we're screwed. Toma is good, but we shouldn't expect a whole lot, and TJ is just flat terrible(I've never seen someone with that bad of butterfingers before.)We better hope from some good production from DaVaris and possibly Koyack next season if we're going to do anything.
5.I still think we can be a 10 win team next season if the right things fall into place. We are going to have a GREAT defense. Our front line looks amazing, and with Manti coming back we've got a solid LB core. What we need are the CB's to step in and play hard(they cant be any worse that what we've had this year.) If we can figure out the QB early and stay with it that will put us in a much better situation.
Ok,that's my wrapup.I am just as disappointed with last night's game as anyone, but it was just another chapter to the story of this season. One of the things that makes our fans the best in the country is that we are used to disappointments like this, but it usually never detracts us from our love of Notre Dame and the great student-athletes that play for us.
