As some of you may know. I'm a Purdue student. So, yesterday I got inline for the Purdue game with some friends (Purdue fans) at 9 am.

I ended up in the 2nd/3rd row (moved around do to over crowding) right on the 35 yard line of the north endzone. My seats were directly behind the 3 defensive/special teams benches.

I only had a mediocre snap shot camera for the game, but here are my Flickr photos.

Also, here are my notes from the game.

Defense:

Darius Fleming: - This guy is a LEADER. He took players (especially Ishaq) under his wing and pointed out what they need to improve on. Darius was always pacing the bench, giving pointers. His BEST moment was when a Purdue student yelled at Ishaq (something about his mom) and Ishaq turned around and started yelling back. Darius turned Ishaq around and got Ishaq focused on the the game again. I can't say enough about how impressive Darius Fleming was.

Manti Te'o - An obvious leader too. He seemed to always be having fun at the appropriate times and business mode when need be. I didn't see Manti directing traffic as much as Darius. BUT, it seems Manti and Lynch have a real close relationship. Also, MANTI TEO SHOUTING - YouTube (Louis Nix was having even more fun during this song)

Louis Nix - MASSIVE, GOOFBALL. Best way to describe him. Always joking around, but serious. He was pretty out of breath at the end of the game.

Harrison Smith - I didn't notice too much from him. Appeared to be roaming the sidelines a lot, or just sitting on the bench. I could be mistaken though.

Robert Blanton - Lets just say, I saw the "trash talking" side of him. Two different times he yelled expletives directed to the students (probably warranted) RJ needs to know better than this though. One time Elston appeared to correct him for yelling at the students.

The Freshmen - (Troy, Ishaq, and Aaron) Massive. Freaks. I had to break the program out to prove to my Purdue friends that they were seriously true freshmen.

Special Teams

Ben Turk - As an ND fan, I though Ben was annoyance... He was turning around to the crowd after TDs. Jawing, mild taunting, etc... He seemed to have ADHD, never stayed put for more than 5 seconds. Always doing "ball tricks" with a football... I know it seems like I'm getting picky, but you had to be there too see how annoying/cocky he came off.

Jordan Cowart - You guys all saw Kelly's reaction I'm sure. Elston also talked to him on the sidelines. The players didn't do too much with him.

Chris Salvi/Josh Atkinson - Sat on the bench by themselves a lot. Kinda wished there were players to interact with them more. George did come down to talk to Josh a few times.

Offense (I was pretty far from the offense's bench, but I watched players warm up/move down the sideline)

Tommy Rees - Always involved. On the phone a lot. High-fived every players hands after extra points. Talked to coaches and players. He's a leader. Enough said, no question he can rally troops.

Dayne Crist - Emotionally, Physically detached from the game. Didn't seem to do much other than roam the sidelines. He talked to some players. Dayne just didn't seem to have that fun spark too him.

Andrew Hendrix - Put his helmet on/warmed up on the drive before Dayne entered. I thought Andrew was going to play, but I think he just wanted to show Kelly he was ready to step in. I liked Andrew's personality on the sideline.

George Atkinson - He rode the bike in front of me quite a bit. He's just a physical specimen, thats all I have to say about him.

Cam McDaniel - He occasionally walked by in front of me. I was amazed by how small he was. Even Kelly soared over him.

Purdue Students

I won't get into the details, but it was raunchy. Many expletives. Declan Sullivan, DUI, and alleged rape were constantly brought up...

Notre Dame fans

TONS of fans around campus. Loved the turn out. I had 3 friends from ND crash at my house. It was an awesome time.

Well, this is just a summary of my AMAZING weekend. It was awesome being that stinking close to the players. NOT TO MENTION, Cierre's hurdle was directly in front of me. Even the Purdue students were in awe.

Thanks to those of you who took the time to read all my ramblings.

I'll be at the USC game and staying in Dillon Hall!
GO IRISH!!!

I was about 25 rows up on the goal line, wore my coaches pull over and got called a "front runner" and the chant a**hole was directed at me by about 50 fans around me. Smiled the whole time though, gotta love wearing the winning teams colors! Go Irish! Beat Falcons!

I've sat in the PU student section for an ND game before with ND gear on. I got verbally abused and stuff thrown at me (didn't care) just for being there. Had a blast though. They weren't too happy when I was screaming for Rudy's game winning TD catch, though.

Dear Lord.

I'm surprised they let you out of that stadium in one piece lol.

Those are good seats. I was a member of Gimlet, so when I wasn't on the field at Purdue games, our seats were front row behind the visitors bench. It can get pretty nasty between fans and players down in that section.

I'd believe that.

One person threatened to break my camera because I was taking pics of ND.

Oh well, they're fans of struggling team. I can relate to the feeling.

To make any kind of negative references in regards to the dead is the lowest form of crass fan behavior imaginable. Talk smack about the game, or players, not some poor kid who died in a freak accident. What a bunch of dumb kids. I'm glad we spanked the holy heck out of em!

My condolences! Anyway, I was there Sat., tailgated on Slayter hill and though it was primarily Purude students/fans in the area, it was rather uneventful and ended up being a enjoyable day/evening. We didn't even hear much Purdue fan smack-talk during the walk to the stadium either. After the game there definitely wasn't any trash talking from their fans .... must have had something to do w/ the azz wuppin' the Irish laid down!

I like the perspective, good to see how the team reacts on the sidelines especially away. Unfortunately my family's tickets are in the boxed seats at home behind the opposition's bench, so I never get to see this kinda stuff.

I sat in row 12 right in front of the ND student section that came. I have to say, while most of them were tolerable and just being excited fans, a couple of them were embarrassing to say the least. It's great to see them bring a traveling student section, but a couple of them needed to be restrained to not embarrass the school. One of the guys in front of me (a Notre Dame fan) moved his family to a different section when they could find an open spot. Obviously many of the Purdue fans were being rowdy and getting into it with the student section, but it was mostly just banter (one Irish fan in front of me tried to pick a fight with a Purdue fan... the Irish fan was in the wrong and would have gotten his keister kicked too, that other guy was a hoss).

But all in all, the Notre Dame fans at the tailgates I saw represented the school well, and in truthfulness there is a lot of camaraderie between the two schools' fans. Both should, and I think do, respect eachother. The ND fan turnout was incredible. There had to be 40,000 ND fans tailgating and/or going to the game. Purdue is a great place to tailgate, and I was treated extremely well even with my ND gear on. We even got some free Jager bombs from Purdue fans that we just started talking to.

I also went to Purdue, so take this as you will.

Here's a picture of my buddies and me at the ESPN Jeep Traveling Tailgate party. That's me turned around about to make out with my Purdue buddy or something. They told us "stand in front of this desk" and took a picture before we knew what was happening. Except for my friend on the left, he knew exactly what was going on apparently. Of course we made sure to sport our employer's koozies. Gotta repasent.

I like to think the next time I'm in front of an ESPN desk I will either be strangling Jesse Palmer or be with three Michelle Beadles instead of three dudes. Maybe my tie will match my highlighter or something.

I sat right behind some Purdue fans. They were really nice and had some good conversations, even though I was drunk and probably being a little obnoxious. Oh well, had a good experience overall.
