Been a fan for a long time (1993) and I've never had the time, or $ (or both at the same time) to make it out to South Bend for a game. Whenever they played out east something or other always came up to prevent me from going. Tommorrow I am going to my first live Notre Dame game and I'm stoked. Getting up at 4am for the pre-game tailgate, and honestly I can't sleep (hence my typing!). Just wanted to share that feeling of anticipation with you all, and perhaps give you a moment to reflect on your own "first game". Feel free to share your own "first game" experiences with us all, and rest assured this Irish fan will be rooting his brains out tommorrow!

Hope you have a great time man. I saw ND @ UW in Seattle a couple of years ago and it was great.

Haven't seen them at the Stadium yet, but I'm sure this atmosphere will be great.

Have fun man!

Only ND game ive ever been to was at Tennessee in 2004.Hell of a game...especially since we broke Ainge's arm.
I grew up in South Bend and unfortunately didnt know much about football at that young age, so never got to go.It's my pilgrimage to mecca to return to ND.
Have fun tomorrow. You'll never forget your first ND game.

Attended Notre Dame vs. UNC 4y ago in the Stadium when our daughter was a freshman.

Unfortunately, only 2- 2 the other 4 times we went (beat Stanford 2 years ago and last year's Washington game but was there when we lost to Navy 3 years ago and UConn last year).

We are staying with our daughter in Hoboken tonight (hopefully an omen that Duval has a big game tomorrow) and going to the game. Would stop by the tailgate but have our 14 yo daughter with us too.

IG - ya gotta make it out to SB some time. I am the youngest of a big Irish Catholic Family. My mother was probably the biggest Irish fan of us all. I cried the first game I saw at the Stadium - before, during and after. There were more tears last May watching our daughter graduate at the Stadium as well.

Otherwise, best place at ND - the Grotto all the time (night before a game, in summer when it is really quiet or covered in snow in the winter).

GO IRISH!

Get the fudge out of here. That was my first game too!!!!!! Except I was 7. I remember walking out of the stadium, wearing my Ron Powlus jersey (still in my closet btw) and holding my dad's hand. That's what I wrote my admissions essay on when I applied to ND.

I thought I loved Notre Dame, thought I was a HUGE fan, up until my first visit to the stadium/campus. It wasn't even for a game (it was in July for a wedding), but my 'fandom' shot through the roof, and I became what I am today (basically obsessed). When I finally went for a game for the first time, it was a 2007 vs USC (38-0 bad guys), but I became an ever bigger fan somehow. The place is that special.

IrishGiant, enjoy the game bro; make it something you'll never forget. Irish fans are the best, classiest around, and Navy fans I'm sure are the same, so the tailgating and the game should be awesome. MAKE SOME NOISE FOR THE IRISH!

Yeah the game kinda sucked. But the pregame tailgate was amazing. The Notre Dame community is so close knit, and family-like it was pretty cool to take part in that. We had over 1,000 people at the tailgate, and game. From where I was we outnumbered Navy fans by a large margin. Not that Navy fans are bad, they were very classy (many were ex-Navy). The whole experience was great. The game itself was painful, but its something I wouldnt ever give back. I love the Irish even more now having seen a glimpse into the greater Notre Dame community, and I know my next game will be a win!

Sorry you had to see that Irish Giant.
Sorry for the game IRISH GIANT-I remember when Notre Dame rolled into town that it was a real occasion and a chance to see a national icon of sport in America. Now its like seeing a 60 year old rock band thats seen better days.

Enjoyed the tailgate but not the game...

Enjoyed the tailgate but not the game...

Yeah the game kinda sucked.

We had a 3 bus catered group from the Lehigh Valley, Pa.
The group next to us was a 3 bus excursion from somewhere
in New York (Leprechaun Tours "T F Noonan's") that brought
along an Irish Band to entertain in the parking lot. A
Moorestown NJ police bagpipe band came by and spotted the
Irish band during a break. Boy, it was fun.

The game was something else, the ND subway alum didn't get
into it and the cheering level was about even for ND and Navy.

I am now NOT a a fan of big screen playback. I hope they
never go that route at ND. Between the sound system and
the four giant screens, it took away from the college
atmosphere. It just seemed cheap and tinny.

All in all, it was an okay day. A local one hour+ ride vs
a 13 hour drive (slow driver)to ND to see a live ND game.
Unless the lottery is kind to me, the next game I attend
will probably be here...Tom
