Most Underrated Sports Program

Talking basketball and football only because I do not watch other sports. I'm from WI so I am bias, but is there a more underrated, under appreciated team that the Wisconsin Badgers?

They're national coverage is basically nill, and they're consistently really good and no one wants to play them in either sport.

Another disclaimer - I'm moderately drunk, but I don't think that matters. I've felt this way for a couple of years.

Before the past couple years, it was WVU. Every year they would be counted out and win big.

Maybe its just me, but I find Wisconsin's basketball program to be extremely overrated.

They sure putting a spanking on Baylor last night. Baylor was one of the trendy picks for this year.

I'm not saying they're elite, but is their basketball and football program ever average? It's always solid and they always compete well in a great basketball conference, and they have played with anyone in football the last few years, and I can't remember the last 'embarassing' loss they've had in football. For football, no one wants to play them because it's never a hyped up game, so you won't get the credit you deserve if you win, and if you lose it's looks much worse than it really is. I guess that's how I view overrated/under appreciated.

I think that underrated and under-appreciated are two different things. I would agree that what Wisconsin does every year with the talent they have would make them under-appreciated. I would not however consider them underrated as they consistently achieve top 25 status, and are probably ranked accordingly. Sometimes they may even be ranked too high.

This year in basketball the Big Ten was probably the strongest overall conference, and Wisconsin held their own the entire year. That is showing in the tournament, and has gotten them to where they are. A 2 seed was probably about where they should have been based on performance.

My beef is more with football than basketball. I'm glad we don't play them, because if we lost people would poke fun at it, if we won, no one would mention it, but it'd be a damn tough game. I wish they played Michigan more, because that'd be a great loss for UM every year.

And I don't follow them closely, but I don't think they bring in much talent for either sport.

+1. I think under-appreciated is what you're looking for here. They're usually ranked where they should be, but even when they're ranked highly nobody really cares. Maybe in part because they're a little boring, in a small market, in a boring conference.
