You know? Regardless of how you feel about tOSU, this article says NOTHING about what the impermissible benefits were. That could be because the school declined to identify them, or it could be the media just piling on. I really would like to hear what, exactly, they received.

The way it works is that if you play them and there is a violation proved later, you are screwed. If you suspend them and the NCAA reinstates them, you are golden, even if they are shown to have killed their grandmother, robbed the state treasury, bet on the game and shaved points.

They received gifts for attending a local charity event. School has said that. Kind of a gift bag for helpingthe charity.

The basketball team always has coaches or handlers with them at stuff like this. Why is the football team having trouble doing this? At least Matta knows what he is doing.

Can't verify anything, but I read that the guys took a gift bag of goodies valued at about $200-300 that EVERYONE who went to the event received. If that's true, this is really blown out of proportion. Funny thing is this happened a few weeks ago, and ESPN is still rubbing it in. The ESPN story does make it sound like actual cash though, so who knows.

No, that was an erroneous report (as my link corrects). They took $$$$$$$. And there are "conflicting" reports on who paid them.

Ah, so the "goodie bag everyone received" was a smoke-screen by the fanboys who think the media keeps picking on wittle ohio swate.
