I was camping in the great north and didnt see any games this weekend including Notre Dame. I just got done watching it (DVR) and WOW! I cant freeking believe we shut out Nevada. I also think we could and should have scored 2 more touchdowns just to step down on the throat a bit more but whatever.

Anyway I saw the final of the Michigan game. Are they THAT good or was Western Michigan THAT bad? Did Hiller even play wtf? Whoever may have watched or seen highlights of the Michigan game can you fill me in as to what happened and is Michigan really that good? If so I'm gonna be kinda nervous on saturday.

No, Western Michigan's defense just really sucks bad. I watch the second half and if Western Michigan was good at all would have scored 21 instead of 7 thats how bad UM's secondary is. However, Western Michigan secondary is worse.

I agree - UM's secondary will truly show on Saturday.

Western Michigan's secondary might put Nevada's to shame. They were absolutely awful.

Michigan is a much improved team. Stop hating and be unbiased, at least when you are making predictions on the game.

Yes, they are much improved. Does that mean much in this game? No. Their secondary does in fact suck. Western Michigan's secondary made it look like Michigan was playing a school for the blind. 31-13 ND rolls

I know its beyond early in the season, but I think its safe to assume that ND WR's, and most likely their offense is going to be a force to be reckoned with. Even the top tier teams will have to game plan to combat the passing game, I think michigan will have a tough time with the passing game of ND.

The same thing that was said going into the NEV game, can be said here...is Michigan going to be able to outscore Notre Dame?

NDOM, Michigan did basically what we did...hammer an inferior team in the first half, and then cruise in the 2nd half.

The thing that upsets me about some ND fans is that we get pissed when anyone (like Mark May) says that we played a crappy team and that's why we beat Nevada so badly, but yet these same 'experts' were saying that we'd lose to Nevada or that we'd be in for a really though game. Same thing happened with the Hawaii game. We can't win either way with these guys who talk out of both sides of their mouths.

But then we have these same ND fans who are saying how crappy WM was and how they lost so many starters and their secondary sucks etc etc. HOWEVER, go read the old Michigan threads (mysteriously missing LOL), and our same fans were saying that Western Michigan would play Mich tough and that they wouldn't be surprised if WM beat Mich. So which one is it guys? How can you predict an upset or a tough game, and then say afterwards that they played a shitty team, and give them no credit. You lose all credibility and it screams HOMERISM, which we all hate when other teams do the same.

Now, I saw some of the game, and people are right WM did look a lot worse than people made them out to be. But I'll be objective and take off my ND glasses, and I WILL give Mich credit. They handily beat a team that many thought would upset them. Now we will see if ND and Mich are for real next week...

exactly right. i have been sayin Michigan will be better. Rodriguez took West Virginia to a BCS bowl with 2 true freshman Steve SLaton and Pat White. Michigan will have better athletes than Nevada. This is gonna be a tugh game ON THE ROAD. Notre Dame should win but we have only played one game

I may be a UM hater - and sound as such - But, I said Sunday herein (or Saturday) they surprised me - I predicted a loss for them - and 5 - 7 on the season. Unlike M May who called ND @ 9-3 and predicted a loss to Nevada - I'm now at 6 - 6 for Mich. - May will still say 9 - 3 and call for a loss 6 out of 12 weekends. I was not impressed with Iowa or Wisc. so Mich. could go 7 - 5.

Again, why will we win? Ultimately, with balance restored in the universe - because we are ND and they're not.

I think the key for saturday against Michigan is two things that nobody has really been talking about.
Determination and Swagger.
I havn't listened to or watched an ND team like the one we have right now for many years. They are focused, and very well prepared. And they have a little swagger with their offense, basically saying you're gonna have to outscore us,cuz we're not gonna stop scoring.
If we play the same way we did last week Michigan wont stand a chance.Write it down. Yes,it's at the big house. But they're starting a quarterback with almost no experience against our tough defense. All we have to do is contain that quick runner of theirs and theyre done. They wont stop our offense.
Put it down. 34-13.IRISH.

The swagger is there - if Olsen had been anymore of a cheerleader (with the crowd) - he'd have been in a sweater.

What about Brian Smith? I was afraid all the celebration was going to get us in trouble.

I loved how after the game we didn't talk smack, we didn't say anything, just we gotta get focused for next week. Getting down to business and I love it.

I agree with those who have said Michigan is improved. But so are we. I see a tough game at the big house, but I think our offense is better than theirs, and I think our defense is better than theirs. I think we are focused and very hungry. Playing on the road is never easy and you know Michigan will have athletes, but I say we win 31-17.

Also it is key that we maintain this hunger and determination. Yes we have a bit of a swagger right now. We need to keep that same attitude.

Michigan looked good, and if we cannot contain Forcier and Robinson then we are in trouble. I'm much more worried about the fact that we continually took awful angles at Kaepernick then that we gave up some long runs up the middle. As long as we don't let Forcier and Robinson dance around for big gains then they'll eventually try and force something and throw a pick. By the way, we're only a 4 point favorite. This game could either go down to the wire, or it could be just like last years game if we can fluster their quarterbacks. That being said, I'm predicting 38-10.

Eh, odds dont mean crap. Look at tOSU. Hell Florida couldn't schedule the Florida School for the Blind so they took a step up and got Charleston Southern and didn't make the spread. ha. We weren't 35 point favorites over Nevada either. I like the pick though, sounds about what I would pick.

I know odds don't mean anything, and all they're trying to do with their point spreads is generate the most bets, but those guys at Vegas are incredible for the most part. Still thinking a win by 20+ though

Experience is critical, and ND is a couple of years ahead of UM in recovering from a disastrous season.

Your post and your avatar are equally compelling, good luck to your team.

Just watching the body language of the team was awesome. Jimmy's facial expression after he ovethrew Rudolph just told the tale. We knew we could score at will, and that miss was just a lead-in to the inevitable big play. Watching Sam Young tell that Nevada player to piss off when he stuck out his hand to get helped up. You just know he said, "It's your teammates job to help you up." You just know this is a different team entering the Big House Saturday. We know we're good, and we may be the only ones that know how good we are. That's ok, we obviously prefer it that way. Keeps the team loose.

Still like to see those 4th and 2's be automatic. Agreed we should have scored another tuddy or two.
