i know its not what you expect from a ND fan however its a college football fan thing. My fiance just took a business trip for Bass Pro and met Archie Griffen himself. She was on a tram from the rental car lot to the airport. She engaged in convo with him because he was flaunting his OSU bag with his OSU pin on his coat etc... She shared with him how our roomy was a big OSU fan..(hater I am).. and he was honored. She still didnt quite understand the reality of the person she was in discussion with till he said, " Tell your ROOMY you just met Archie Griffen!" A strong ND fan she is, didnt care because it wasnt a ND name she recognized, yet she quickly knew it was a OSU guy. YA. not quick but she did become offensive and say watch out for ND to pass your Pryor/team in GREATNESS... She said he was taken back and also confused, but he said follow your team and at some point they will become great again. That made me think, I respect this guy. As much as she loves ND and is not a fan of OSU because of our roomy, she still turned to him and said, " Archie, I apologize... I should have said THE OHIO STATE!"

About five mins went by and he came up to her and gave her his OSU pin. He let her know that she should give this to her roomy and let him know who she just met. He then said again... SUPPORT YOUR TEAM! ND WILL BE ND AGAIN!

I hate OSU but I love a respectable college football playesr from any school that makes greatness and can understand that you support your school no matter what! I am so proud of my fiance for, even though she was ignorant to her situation, would not deny the fact that she was ND through and through....

My point is no matter what you think of ND.. dont give up... you never know who is with you!

Good for Archie!

He and Robert Smith give OSU, what two upright citizens? OK add Herbie.

Meanwhile in other OSU news, an Ohio judge has moved Maurice Clarett to a smaller detention facility. Moving him closer to release.

Clarett took college level courses while in jail which is more than Katzenmoyer did when he was an OSU athlete.

Someone should make a documentary on Clarrett. He is a fascinating story of someone who believed his own hype.

great story about archie. a little disappointed in her talking trash to him for no reason other than she doesnt like his old team... its too bad people feel that way. unless i am misunderstanding the story.

sounds like a class guy and turned something that could have been awkward into something that was very nice and admirable. i know i probably wouldnt have had as much couth.

there are good guys and bad guys on every team. there are guys who should be respected and guys who have done nothing worth respecting. nd is no different than every other school when it comes to that.

and yes nd will be what it once was again.

Kind of hard to place sarcasm in writing I suppose... it was all out of joking manner. Great guy. Because of his manner as a person I felt its a great story in the fact that he is a stand up guy.

LMAO@Katzenmoyer. But, BGIF, tOSU has put plenty of good citizens out there. They just weren't always the biggest football names.

Jim Tyrer, who was an All American at tOSU, played for the Dallas Texans, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Washington Redskins, in the course of a 14 year career. He was named to the All Time AFL team, and was a great guy. Tragedy struck, in 1980, when Tyrer, suffering from depression, shot his wife, then turned the gun on himself. How, you may ask, would I know what a great guy he was?

Jim Tyrer was a close friend, and high school football teammate of my dad's, in Newark, OH. Not a saint or anything, but I would certainly classify him as a good citizen.

Friends of Jeff Alm held him in high regard also despite his likewise tragic demise. I didn't know him personally.

Sidenote: Katzenmoyer is taking courses at OSU toward his degree!
