Marcus Freeman Revisited

I think one of this teams biggest issues (aside from how banged up and inexperienced the receivers are which is huge) is that it seems to lack a Manti, KLM or Zack Martin type leader particularly on the O line. Mike Frank expressed/ranted about this and I think he’s right.

The coaches can talk all day but in the end the players need to hold each other accountable.

Even someone like Jarrett Patterson would've been helpful with that.

Again, my overall opinion is that the offense, as an entire administration, just isn't working...from the top down. Everything should be on the table at this point to get it fixed. I hope Freeman is self-aware enough to realize that.

I agree that it looks soft on paper, but predicting how teams are going to be the following year in the portal era is a fool's errand.
100% agree with this. I have absolutely no idea what TAMU is going to look like come August. Nobody does.

Not worth speculating at this point. I'll just say playing two MAC schools in September is something I could have never imagined I'd see.

Great open your fucking checkbook and get your Head Coach the right staff. This season's failure is on this guy - at least in part. Action talks, Jack.
Well said- hopefully with the new AD & University President they are able to adapt to the changes & new era of college football whether you agree with it or not.

ND goes out to get the #1 QB in the portal that gives us hype & great speculation for the season and they 100% fail on hiring an offensive coordinator. Hartman would've had a better season had ND hired a better OC.

I am just looking for any sign that Freeman doesn't call Swarbrick every day and ask: "Boss, what should I do next?"

Freeman has to start holding his staff accountable. Grow a pair, please.

His single instance is the worst for sure but has he done it over multiple games?

Freeman major in game mistakes has been over a bunch
Cristobal has made bad coaching decisions an art form of sorts dating back to his time at Oregon.

Off the top of my head, Oregon ultimately went on to lose to Stanford largely due to the exact same thing.

That, first half end of Pitt, Louisville going for it fourth and forever in own territory, clemson timeout usage, that’s just this year

Truthfully, in terms of sheer game management, he's good for one blunder a game. He's got a lot of positives, but MF needed time to cut his teeth prior to taking a job like ND.

Glad you are so concerned about MF. Or are you talking about BK?

I keep hearing this. The implication is that we never made boneheaded in game mistakes until we hired this greenhorn. BK made more dumb decisions in game and with his staff at ND than I care to recall. There were games he just handed to opponents.
At L$U BK primarily lost the FSU game with a little help from his crony special teams coordinator. He routinely makes decisions that put his team in difficult situations because, BK. He has lost three games this year same as us. He has been a head coach longer than many people making this statement have been alive. And he has the best player in the country at the most critical position in the game and two wideouts who are day 1 picks. No academic restrictions, a boatload of transfers, but don’t let that get in the way of this narrative.

Ed frickin O won a ship with the best QB in the country. Jimbo and Lincoln Riley got generational wealth on the backs of a great QB, BK has done bupkiss. Give me the potential of our young coach, you enjoy the wisdom of BK.

Straw man, one example doesn't make an argument. Yeah BK made some mistakes but that doesn't, by extension, excuse Marcus Freeman's.

I don’t believe anyone is excusing MF’s mistakes. If anything, we knew it came w/ being a 1st time HC. The point is that veteran HCs have & continue to make similar in-game mistakes…so what’s their excuse? Franklin, Lanning, Cristobal, Dabo come to mind in making regrettable calls this year alone.

Franklin and Cristobal suck. Dabo has proven himself a great HC....and Lanning is doing things in Oregon we only wish Freeman would be doing now at ND.

A head coach earns his $$$ on game day - the rest is just hard work listening to people and being a great public relations man after you do your job recruiting--but you bet your %!$ you better be a good game day coach from getting off the bus until the clock runs out or you're not serving your team the way they need you to.

Everyone knows the honeymoon is over. The notion that his charisma and likability alone will not get us back to where we were... Top 5. Its also a little wondering if this is starting to feel like "the Emperor has no Clothes On" type of moment.

Does Freeman have real control over the program? Will he make the personnel changes required? Or will he continue to be the nice guy that loses 3 - 4 games a year.....
