When Ludwig hire fell through (regardless of reason & I don’t think anyone truly knows the truth), why would a rookie HC settle for a internal hire of the TE Coach who was demoted as OC at his last post? I know MF is an OSU grad but he doesn’t strike me as an idiot. The buck should stop with him. He’s said as much so I find it hard to believe he could convince himself (knowing the pressure cooker he was in) that elevating a TE coach for his 2nd try as OC was the best move…unless he was told it was his only option…which as cheap as ND is doesn’t sound like something Swarbrick would do (And I blame him for a lot). Maybe MF panicked b/c time was running out when there was still plenty of time when you consider the veteran QB you had coming in. I think if MF doesn’t survive his first contract, it’ll be largely b/c of elevating Parker to OC
I think we know the reason. I can't blame Freeman for that. ND charges $10 to walk down the tunnel on Fridays (when it used to be free) but starts penny-pinching when it comes to coaches. In any case, the AD should not be involved in hiring assistants except in extreme cases (e.g., 2016). I don't think Ludwig would have turned up in public with Freeman (hockey game) if he was going to turn us down.

TBH, this is exactly what I would expect him to say in a PC. He's not going to throw Parker under the bus in front of everyone. Having said that, if the offense looks the same Saturday night, then I guess he is okay with the play calling.

What I'm curious to know, is as a former DC, is MF looking at the offense from his DC eyes and offering opinions on what he sees?

When did they start that up ($10)? I did it in 2019 for the USC game, it was free then.

Sure you dont want to air dirty laundry. Just not a good take in my opinion. Not a good way to instill confidence in the players.

This is where I’m at.

Anyone with a pulse can see that our playcalling has been an issue, and I’m sure he probably expected the question.

You can give an answer that is fair to the situation but simultaneously doesn’t throw anyone in particular under the bus. An immediate example - “we are currently evaluating and working to improve all aspects, including play calling”.

Seeing him blatantly say that he has no issues with the play calling (whether or not he actually does) is a bit concerning to me - I don’t like the message it sends to the team, to the fanbase, etc.

I tend to agree with you, but remember that Marcus Freeman went to Baton Rouge and wisely turned LSU/Orgeron down to serve as LSU's defensive coordinator.

Make or break game for the season and for MFMF
The season is broken already. MF is responsible for breaking the season not the players. It all goes back to OSU. If he doesn't make it past year three - which is possible - that OSU game will be his Waterloo.

He should never been hired but Swarbrick likes a HC he can oversee.

Is Sam checked out? I hope not, he was acting weird last game.

I thought the same. I posted this in the Louisville post-game thread:

Hartman’s sideline demeanor is concerning. He looks checked the fuck out. He came to ND to improve his draft stock and show that he could play in an offense that wasn’t just the “slow mesh.”

Well, the OC blows, the running game is bottled up, the offensive line has been meh at best against competition that isn’t a SWAC school or service academy, his best receiver (and he’s damn good — he’s arguably playing better than anyone on the entire team right now) is TE Mitchell Evans. It just isn’t clicking like we all thought it would.

I think he is very frustrated. He knows the plays calls are trash and its starting to make him look bad. He's not perfect, but he is very capable. His first INT was on the receiver even though it wasn't a great ball. It seemed after that, he was just pissed off and I don't blame him.

Since LSU is your #1 team, where do you post for LSU? You seem so prodigious with your input here and ND is clearly not your primary team.
Do you offer...anything...of value here? Surely there's a feature to block certain users on this board, right?

ETA: Found it. Problem solved.

Stop quoting Driskell just making shit up to place blame on everyone but Freeman.

ND rotated the OL all week in practice.
You have to be a complete moron (like Driskell) to spend an entire week in practice getting reps with the 1’s, and not know you are getting reps in the game.

Driskell’s explanation is typical Driskell spin & bullshit.
Think about it.
OL get hurt all the time. OL get put in with the 1’s all the time, WITHOUT having a full week of practice with the 1’s like they did this week & do fine.

Driskell is just doing two things:
1) Making an excuse for Schrauth because he didn’t play well, & according to Driskell he is better than any IOL.
2) Driskell has to place blame on anybody but Freeman.

Driskell’s entire response and actions since the game speak volumes.
He didn’t do his normal shows.
He wasn’t on his own board except to go at people for not being in his cult.
His first post about the game was going after an individual who said the coaches at ND knew more about what happens in practice than that (IB) site. Driskell got butthurt as usual & went after them.

Driskell legitimately thinks he has a better understanding of what happens at practices he’s not actually at, than the ND staff. All because he talks to parents of disgruntled players.

And he honestly believes he knows more football & is a better coach than ND coaches.
I, along with others, have the messages to prove it.
That’s why many of us aren’t friends with him anymore, because he tried telling us, in all seriousness, he was a better coach than Brian Kelly. A freaking failed D3 position coach. LOL

Sidenote: He also started banning people who questioned him. It’s a classic dictator move. When he started his site he said over and over again that the difference between his site & others is nobody would be censored unless they crossed obvious lines (name calling, politics, violence, etc…).
Now he is banning people for disagreeing with him or pulling up his old quotes & calling him out on them.
But he can’t afford to lose the subscriptions, so he just bans them from posting.
His Cult is unraveling now, because more & more people there are realizing he is full of shit.
Wow that is way more voluminous and biting than anything I have posted. I think you deserve some sort of an award for this.

One thing you left out is that Dew Man is blaming the receiving corp for letting Freeman down too. Meaning they didnt pass to the boundaries not because the staff is tentative to do this but that the receivers just suck. No one dare point out that a walk on can catch a basket catch by Sam Hartmann.....

He's definitely very capable. He's easily a top-10 quarterback, but the WR play hasn't been great. He really doesn't have too much to work with outside the hashes and by the numbers. In terms of defensive schematics, you can really just remove those two portions of the field as a threat, and focus your entire pass defense along the center of the field and quick slants.

So did anyone actually think MF would call out individuals on his team. Shaun Davis keeps harping that he needs to do so and i dont understand the stupidity of the action. MF is a professional, im not defending him as a coach but he isnt stupid. Why would he blow up his OC during the season on rivalry week he isnt BK.

And Sam needs to cut that f-ing hair. Pussy
I'm all for freedom of expression but in all seriousness, it gives off an Aaron Rodgers I'm so cool and not really doing anything for GB vibe. He doesn't need a brush cut but unlike Trevor who has always had long hair and has to push it back all the time when being interviewed, with Hartman it looks too contrived like he is so cool and The Irish are gonna be great this year because I came on board as their star QB! Cut the f-ing hair, get in the damn huddle and be a star LEADER and lead the Irish to a Fighting strong finish for COL!!

We lose and start criticizing hairstyles. Wow.
It's not just criticizing his hair style, it's more like it's extension of MFMF maybe being a little too laid back and trying to be too cool (all the mock videos for the special jersey, etc.) Let's focus on turning the team around... It's like everyone has an attitude of "We're ND, we're so cool and have a cool coach, a cool star transfer QB who hangs w/ Swiftie, and from time to time, wear cool Green jerseys! And we have a lot of Blue Chips and are a storied program so we just have to win big this year, oh hell, win the Natty! Ok, but you're 5-2 and staring at likely a few more losses if you don't turn things around so let's get focused and try to win out.

He doesn't do it in games, doesn't do it in public, i have no faith he's holding people accountable in practice either.

I would be completely fine if he didn't throw anyone under the bus, nor should he, but he should hold people accountable, players and coaches. He's clearly not doing that, maybe it will change. Not sure why it was ever an option NOT to hold them accountable.

Going to turn things around and get focused by cutting our hair. You sound like an unstable woman after a small mishap
