Is Manti on campus with the team? All seems to be quiet on the Manti front.

I'm 99% sure I saw Trevor Robinson at the post office today. Seriously.

number 5 -- during his recruitment, the Irish already offered him his number.

What about Armando Allen? Has he agreed to change numbers?

They can both have 5, but not on the field at the same time. I guess maybe that would rule out Manti playing on the kick return team, correct me if I'm wrong. As an owner of a #5 ND Jersey, I have no problem with it.

Kyle Rudolph and Ethan Johnson both wore #9 last season. One's on offense; the other defense. Can't have two players on the field with the same number. So Omar couldn't line up next to Ethan wearing #9.

I totally forgot about Rudolph and Johnson #9. I'm a complete moron.

Also, a co-worker asked me what number jersey to buy for her husband for Father's Day and I suggested #9 because he'd be wearing the jersey of a potential All-American on Offense and Defense.

Hey how bout the other guys we recruited this year? I for one hope i do not hear his name at all on September 5th. I think that is a bad sign for a true freshman, no matter how good you guys think he will be, to be getting so much PT after only a month on the team.

lmao...yeah it's a horrible sign that the best LB we've ever landed in my life time will be starting his freshman year. 6'2'' 240 lb brick shit house who runs a 4.6 40...yeah let's keep him off the field.

First of he isnt the best LB we have ever landed, he is the highest rated LB. Im not saying that he is gonna be a bust but let the kid play a down first. The people who are busting on Jimmy Clausen are the same people who were saying he was the best QB we ever landed. That is how you set unrealistic expectations. The point i was trying to make is

1) despite all the recruiting class rankings we got alot of really good kids this class, not just Te'o.

2) I wasnt saying that he should not play. I was saying that if he is the starting LB from day one that says more about how bad our LB's are than how good he is.

Not yet anyway.

... he is the highest rated LB. ...

Not sure that's true. Kory Minor was the USA Today Defensive Player of The Year.

Unrealistic expectations are the norm for ND fans that way they can gripe when they're not met.

If Manti rates a #1 slot start him. If he needs time like Julius Jones, Ryan Harris, and so many other talented freshman, he works his way into the rotation and eventually a start - when he's ready.

If the kid is an absolute stud, then you play him, period. THE BEST PLAY, no matter their age. That doesn't say anything about the other LB's at all if a superstar comes in and beats them out. Ask USC if they let their freshman play. That's their damn motto: Compete. I think it's worked out OK for them under Poodle Carroll.

Te'o might be a bust, who knows? But if he comes in on the first day and just dominates, then it's NOT a bad sign for the program if he starts; it's a damn great sign that we're finally recruiting difference makers on the defensive side of the ball...

We did get alot of really good kids, but T'eo was the jewel of this class. No harm in wanting him to play right away.

first off i said best in MY LIFE TIME...and yes he by far is. If Jimmy stays all four years he'll destroy every passing record too.

Could not have said it better myself...

its easier (not saying its easy, just easier) for freshman LB to step in and start, than it is for say a freshman QB, WR, or DB. QB's and WR's have to learn the offense and get timing down and make route changes from what the Defense is giving them, that comes from repetition. LB's have to learn the defensive calls, stay within the defensive philosophy, and knock mother f*ckers out. very similar to what they do in HS. Manti is a special recruit, a natural leader. I played organized football for awhile, and I think I can recoginize a natural leader and with Manti its a no-brainer. Even if his on-the-field play doesnt measure up (which I believe it will) his leadership will be invaluable. every successful team has a great leader.

I EXPECT Manti to be on the field sept 5th, knocking MFr's out.

He better see the field or he'll be off on a mission next year... I think he should deserve it of course but I doubt CW would've promised his blessing for a mission unless he thought he'd have such an impactful season, that he'd consider staying mainland for his mission.. Let him chop wood I say, somewhere safe where the wood can't fall behind him.

Yep. Manti is on campus. He probably doesn't mind the 90+ degree heat the rest of us are complaining about.

Don't ask. lol He was a 5 star DT recruit who committed to ND, and then bailed and went to Florida, making him a certified douchebag.

Did someone say Omar Hunter? Wheres WWB? What are your chances of getting him?

I grew up a few hours from South Bend, in Canton OH, and I also spent two years in Hawaii, when I was in the Navy. I can tell you, right now, there is a HUGE difference between 90-something in Indiana, and 90-something in Hawaii. The trade winds blow pretty much year round, in Hawaii. Even though 90 is hot, you usually have a good, relatively cool, breeze.
