eh....i buy into the concept of poor officiating - they were bad for this game, on both sides of the ball. remember shark's catch out of bounds to keep a drive alive?

but i don't buy into the officiating conspiracy theories. these guys might be paid by the pac 10, but they're officiating a game on national tv where the fans and media have the benefit of instant replay even if the teams and coaches don't. a ref blows too many calls, and he'll get crucified in the court of public opinion, as will the pac 10.

you've got to believe that the majority of officials will set aside personal relationships during game time and call a game as best they know how. their reputations are based on their integrity on the field, and most of them take pride in that.

Agree with you on a "blatant conspiracy theory"......is it in the subconscious??? or the "look the other way" theory, not sure I agree w your views......I give you evidence that the refs looked away on "the PUSH and the Timeout" and "the spot" and the direction of "the fumble"......the refs were 4-0 on making a call that benefited Southern Cal. Coincidence??? I don't buy it.

yes, all of those calls could have been made. i actually believe they should have been made, despite the fact that they're rarely called. but you're talking about human refs who can get just as caught up in the confusion that comes with the final seconds of a game like this. and you're kind of looking at things in a vacuum. like i said - smarj's catch out of bounds kept our drive alive. brady quinn's touchdown dive was questionable. weis was out of the coach's box at times as well. he didn't get flagged either. we got our breaks too.

the spot was unfortunate. i wish they'd have gotten it right. the (lack of) calls? fear (of having a hand in a loss - in this situation, making the call may very well have caused a loss for so cal), confusion, or a flat out failure to recognize the violation is more likely to blame than a "look the other way" theory. like i said, these guys are human.

you also have the benefit of replay on tv, and you can look at violations separately. the truth is, some of these issues were happening simultaneously, and all of it happened over the course of a minute or two.

i'm not defending the refs. i'm pissed at their blown calls. but are you really so confident that you could have done better in that atmosphere?

Agreed weisfan. Too many situations that should have been flagged, but weren't. You'd figure that one of those clowns would have been polished on the enforceable rules of NCAA D1 football and when an infraction occurs and when to pull the yellow nose blower out of the back pocket.
