I guess there is some rumors that the new QB coach at UCLA is Ryan's QB coach at Michigan, Scot Loeffler.

There is speculation out of Ann Arbor that freshman quarterback Ryan Mallett has decided to leave Michigan and will transfer to UCLA, according to a person close to the team.

toledoblade.com -- UM's Mallett planning to transfer

I am afraid this is not a new rumor. Sometime around mid-season before RR was even thought of as the next coach, Mallet was rumored to be leaving. Many Michigan fans I know wanted him gone for not being a "Michigan Guy" (whatever the hell that is).

I agree with that RamMan, He knows he's got the job if they don't get Pryor and he knows he doesn't if they do get Pryor.

Mallet leaving would make the most sense. Like I said before I just can't picture him running an option. He is a pocket passer period.

My money is on Pryor going to them.

I'd agree with that too but if they don't get Pryor for some reason, who else will be the quarterback for the Skunkbears?

You don't have to be a Tebow to run the spread. Mallet might be able to do it (or not). Depends on how well RR can sell it to him, and if Pryor comes. Be interesting to see what happens.

Mallett ran the spread (not the spread option) very effectively in high school, had great numbers, so it wouldn't be a stretch for him to stay. And M ran the spread against Fl with an immobile qb and he had a career day. If Pryor comes, however, Mallet's days might be numbered, but then they won't really need him.

a highly touted freshman QB starting on a team that loses all of it's offensive weapons is gonna be dangerous? hmm, that scenario sounds familiar.

Andy Jimmy Clausen used to stiff arm linebackers and take off running last year in high school. The fact that Mallet was fast enough against HS defenders doesn't mean much against college guys.

Mallet looked slow and plodding in the Skunkbear offense this year and he was not required to move that much. He showed a long stride but poor foot speed. No matter where he plays, that team is going to have to work hard on blitz pickups.

But his QBs are usually running. I know Pat White has a canon as well but the guy runs like a 2.1 forty. I tend to think of his type of a spread as more of a run first spread. I believe that Texas Tech also runs a version but it is more of a passing spread and not the spread option.

White has a good arm, but he's not overly accurate beyond 10-12 yards. And a 2.1 forty ... yeah, right!

Very Familiar!!!! only difference is Mich OL...and that is a big difference!!! They have been reloading at OL for years...can u say real OL Coach!!!!

I think Mallet is gone and Pryor will start next year!!! I am hoping Pryor is a flop if this is the case!!!!

You have to factor in the line play if they switch offenses. These guys weren't recruited for a spread option, so there may be a learning curve. And whose the bckup if Pryor goes down?!? Sounds like a tenuous situation to me. And I love it!!!!!

As a sworn enemy of the "Team That Shall Not Be Named", I take great delight in the upheaval at said school. My gleefulness was tempered, however, at the naming of "The New Coach" at said school. Early predictions were Mallet to Arkansas to team up with Petrino. The Team That Shall Not Be Named, usually has a full stock of whatever they need and I am sure that they will be fine.
My gut feeling is that Mallet gives "The New Coach" a year before transferring. IMO in the case of a coaching change, the kids should be allowed to transfer without sitting a year.

I have to disagree w/ you on these two points. IF Mallet is to transfer, I would think that he will do it this year. Get in his "new environment" now and be ready to go once he sits out his one year. Secondly, I disagree about kids should be allowed to transfer w/o sitting a year in case of a coaching change. Sorry, but when a player signs their Nat'l Letter of Intent, it's to the school ... not the coach that happens to be there are the time. I still think that is why Charlie and his recruiting staff are doing so well, they are selling Notre Dame as a whole ... not just football (and current coaching staff).
