Jan. 15, 2007

Notre Dame senior wide receiver Jeff Samardzija was named to the 2006 NCAA Consensus all-America Football Team announced Friday. Samardzija was one of three wide receivers to make the 29-player team that features 14 offensive players and 15 defensive players.

Samardzija led Notre Dame for the second-straight season in receptions (78) and yards (1,017) and added 12 touchdown catches. He became the first Irish player to post multiple seasons of at least 1,000 yards receiving and was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the top college football receiver. Sorry Samardzija...Just kidding

An oddity came across the desk today courtesy of Notre Dame.

Last week, we were informed that senior wide receiver Jeff Samardzija was a consensus All-American for the second straight year. Upon further review...the NCAA has rescinded the honor.

When the organization compiled the list, it forgot to add the Sporting News second team All-American team. After adding the points for that team in, it knocked Samardzija off the squad.

So, Samardzija is off and it left USC junior Dwayne Jarrett and Georgia Tech junior Calvin Johnson as the two wide receivers on the consensus team.

Nice job, NCAA.

I am stepping into Jeff Smardjzia's life for a moment and I don't care. Last summer I get 7 Million from my favoritve baseball team, this summer I get drafted in the first or second (only based upon my stubborness) round of the NFL draft. College football to me is a passing car in my rear view. Wish I was him.

Today jeff officially signed a 5 year deal with the cubs and announced that he won't play in the NFL. Guess it was part of his contract. Thats a shame, i really wanted to see what he could do. Good luck jeff. Hope you don't wind up anything like the cubs last couple of highly touted pitching prospects.
