The argument always seems to be bowls versus playoffs. But what sort of playoff are we talking about exactly? Lots of formats to choose from.
If they ever did go to a playoff, my ideal system would be to shorten the reg season to 11 games, eliminate the conference championship week, then run a full tilt 64 team tourney with a selection EXACTLY like the basketball version. Start it around thanksgiving and culminate it on the 1st of January - no more of this January 8th BS.
Otherwise keep it how it is. I dont want some chicken shit tourney with 4-6 teams so I can hear the 3 teams behind them cry about it for a month. Full boat or BCS game - no in between.
It wouldnt be that hard to squeeze a few playoff games. Something to fill that 40-50 day gap before the traditional bowls we have now.
Its called Finals
division II and non-scholarship Div III teams do it with no problem. I cant see why it would be so hard for Div 1 primas to do it.
Holly crap you want it to be like the NFL and College Basketball, so the regular season doesn't matter at all so you can go to Bed Bath and Beyond with the Wife on saturdays
Can I vote for the pre-BCS system? At least it had tradition and didn't play at being something it wasn't.

Some of these bowls suck. I dislike a lot of these tie ins like Big 10 #7 vs Mac #2 and crap like that. Man those games are hard to watch. There are no natural rivalries, it has a exhibition game feel to it.
Could they maybe eliminate 10 bowls and give more credence to the others?
I hear that the peach bowl or chik-fil-a or whatever is damn near ready to crack into BCS ice. They are paying out almost BCS cash right now.

Complete and utter bullshit. Winter sports have finals too, but a women's basketball team doesn't get $13 million for going to the Rose Bowl.
Final exams take a 4-5 day school week at best. Who takes finals for a month?
This is excuse is lame and translated in suit talk, all of their answers mean "money." University presidents will have a playoff when they want one and right now they don't. There is no other reason, bullshit or otherwise.

It doesn't matter when they take them. They're usually in December within the first couple of weeks after Thanksgiving. That isn't the point.
Finals is a bogus excuse by university presidents. The fact they can say it with a straight face is rather insulting. I-A is the only level of football that doesn't have a playoff.
It's a bullshit soundbyte and nothing more. You rarely hear them mention it anymore because when they initially did, they got torn a new one for it.

One of the reasons given against a playoff is that the bowl games are great. What kind of reasoning is that? One of the announcers at this year's Fiesta Bowl gave that reason, that the Fiesta Bowl was such a great game. Why wouldn't the quarterfinals, or semifinals games be great games?
You are spot on. Reps.
Every school doesn't take finals the same week...
Because Hawaii wouldn't be in the Quarterfinals
The Bowl games are great, I watched 28 of 32 of them and enjoyed each...why do people want less football
The bowls would not disappear, the top4 would change...that's all.
